The proposed converter is a combination of AC/AC regulator, star-zigzag transformer and half-wave diode rectifier. This system is recommended to be used instead of thyristor-controlled rectifiers in that it offers some advantageous such as reduced iron and copper losses as rectified voltage decreases. In addition, in thyristor-controlled rectifiers, the efficiency of rectification is unsatisfactory as the firing angle of thyristors increases. This paper discusses the working principles of the proposed system and then different types of powers such as active, reactive and distortion power and the efficiency are compared between the proposed converter and thyristor-controlled rectifier. Simulation results and theoretical analysis show the priority of the proposed system in high current and low voltage applications.","PeriodicalId":104998,"journal":{"name":"2010 1st Power Electronic & Drive Systems & Technologies Conference (PEDSTC)","volume":"131 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-05-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115617590","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Flexibility in the proposed values increases the system degrees of freedom in mitigating more harmonics leading to an improved THD. In this paper, a novel SHM control strategy has been proposed for cascaded multilevel inverters with flexible dc sources. Minimizing the objective function in the proposed strategy, the optimized dc sources values are found besides the switching angles. These optimized sources have lower values compared to the conventional ones. This is a major advantage of this proposed strategy as it leads to a lower common-mode voltage and power dissipation along with a significant improvement in the THD. Software implementation of the conventional and proposed SHM control strategies has been applied to five and seven-level inverters. Results show the superiority of the proposed strategy from the THD point of view along with the reduction in Common-mode voltage and power dissipation.","PeriodicalId":104998,"journal":{"name":"2010 1st Power Electronic & Drive Systems & Technologies Conference (PEDSTC)","volume":"38 10","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-05-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120816197","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed control system utilizes the advantages of the both FOC and DTC methods and at the same time eliminates their implementation difficulties. The performance of drive in the field weakening region is also studied. A control scheme for robust flux-weakening operation of motor drive is adopted. The basic idea is to adjust the flux reference on the basis of the q-axis stator current error, thus determining a spontaneous flux weakening. Simulation results show that the proposed control scheme is able to follow the reference speed with a reasonable dynamic and relatively low error.","PeriodicalId":104998,"journal":{"name":"2010 1st Power Electronic & Drive Systems & Technologies Conference (PEDSTC)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-05-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129153832","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is known that the magnetic characteristics of hysteresis motor could be easily affected by air gap and structure dimensions variation. Air gap length plays an important role in flux distribution in hysteresis ring that can influence the output torque, terminal current and efficiency of AFHM. Regarding this issue, in this study effect of air gap variation on performance characteristics of an axial flux hysteresis motor is investigated. Effect of air-gap length on electrical circuit model is perused. Finally, simulation of AFHM in order to extract the output values of motor and sensitivity analysis on air gap variation is done using 3D-Finite Element Model. The simulation is based on Maxwell's field equations for an axial flux type machine at synchronous speed. Also, a hysteresis loop in the shape of an inclined ellipse is adopted. This study can help designers in design approach of such motors.","PeriodicalId":104998,"journal":{"name":"2010 1st Power Electronic & Drive Systems & Technologies Conference (PEDSTC)","volume":"78 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-05-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114846987","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Many different control techniques have been applied to UPS inverters. However, there are few publications reviewing the literature on these control techniques and classifying the same, particularly with regard to the recent developments in this area. In this paper, a review of the most solutions for control of UPS inverters is carried out. These control techniques are classified as conventional or classical control, predictive control, learning control and nonlinear control. To suppress torque ripple caused mainly by non-sinusoidal back electromotive force (BEMF), and harmonics in control system, non-sinusoidal currents should be injected into the PMSM. Although many effective schemes based on new adaptive control or iterative optimization methods, are presented in previous works but these methods increase complexity of control system. As a comparison with the other methods, this paper provides a novel simple harmonic compensation approach with significant effects to obtain optimal motor drive without any complexity. The simulation results in MATLAB /Simulink confirm the validity of proposed control approach and its effectiveness in minimizing torque pulsations and harmonic noises in PMSM.","PeriodicalId":104998,"journal":{"name":"2010 1st Power Electronic & Drive Systems & Technologies Conference (PEDSTC)","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-05-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131312552","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
