Study design A cross-sectional study Methods Fifty healthy participants (24 men, 26 women) participated in this study. The CSA of core muscle was measured using MRI. Maximal isometric trunk flexor strength, endurance, the score of double leg loading test were used to measure core muscle function. The relationship between core muscle CSA and muscle function was examined by Pearson’s correlation coefficient and Spearman rho correlation coefficient. Results Maximal isometric trunk flexor strength and side bridge strength were positively correlated with core muscle CSA. The isometric endurance test scores also showed a positive correlation with core muscle CSA except for the score of trunk flexor endurance test. Conclusions Only core strength showed moderate to excellent correlation with core muscle CSA. These findings indicate that core training to achieve muscle hypertrophy could lead to improved core strength but not core endurance.","PeriodicalId":102754,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Musculoskeletal Science and Technology","volume":"125 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124507710","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study investigated the influence of core stability on hip abductor strength in standing. Study design A parallel-groups design Methods 34 subjects with sufficient and insufficient core stability between 20–31 years. Hip abductor strength was measured using Smart KEMA tensiometer, with subjects between sufficient and insufficient core stability. Two groups were classified by using the double bent leg lowering test. The hip abductor strength were measured in standing with and without an external support. The two-way mixed analysis of variance was applied. Results In the group with insufficient core stability, The hip abductor strength in standing was greater with external support than the condition without external support. No significant difference was found in the hip abductor strength in the subjects with sufficient core stability between the conditions with and without external support. Conclusions The performance of the hip abductor strength can be influenced by core stability in standing. In the group with insufficient core stability, the hip abduction strength in standing is better with external support, as compared to the condition without external support. Therefore, core stability exercise can be recommended in individuals with insufficient core stability to improve the hip abductor performance in standing.","PeriodicalId":102754,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Musculoskeletal Science and Technology","volume":"124 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133255271","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
