Therefore, a good study of user altruism is crucial in designing and building effective OppNets. Here battery is the resource constraint and relaying data for others is the altruistic decision. We conducted two types of experiments, one with an Android application and the other based on AMT platform. With around 800 subjects, we found that users are approximately 0.50 - 0.70 altruistic on average and they are less likely to perform altruistic behavior when the cost is higher than 10% of the remaining battery level. Social ties have impact on users' altruism. To the best of our knowledge this is the first work to study human altruism using mobile computing application, which not only bring us fundamental understanding on human behaviours but also help to gain insights for boosting efficiency of relevant computing frameworks.","PeriodicalId":102278,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 7th International Workshop on Hot Topics in Planet-scale mObile computing and online Social neTworking","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131033740","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, constrained by available time and network flow, users may only choose to watch some hot video segments that are manually annotated by video editors. In this paper, we aim to automatically extract video highlight shot with the help of video sentimental feature of time-sync comments. First, analyzing statistical feature of real data. After, we simulate the generation process of time-sync comment after. Then, we propose a shot boundary detection method to extract highlight shot, which is proved to be more effective than traditional methods based on comment density. This experiment attests the time-sync comment is particularly suitable for sentiment-based video segment extraction for 2 reasons. 1) Text-based similarity calculation of is much faster than image-based process depending on every frame of video; 2) Time-sync comment reflects user subjective emotion therefore is useful in personalised video recommendation.","PeriodicalId":102278,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 7th International Workshop on Hot Topics in Planet-scale mObile computing and online Social neTworking","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129791464","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Their prices have also known noticeable declines making the ownership of a smart-phone at the ability of all pocket sizes. This has created tremendous potential for the design and creation of services that users can consume through their smart-phones and that would improve their daily lives tasks. In this work, we focus on the potential of using smart-phones in geographically bounded areas, such as shopping malls, museums, conference venues, etc, to establish collaborative ad-hoc networks over MANET. These networks are meant to allow for the provision of P2P exchange of information and help between visitors of such places to improve their visiting experience. We discuss how such a network could be designed and we focus on two main challenges: 1. identity validation over the network to ensure the worthiness of provided information, and 2. privacy preservation both against personal information inference from provided information and over the p2p overlay.","PeriodicalId":102278,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 7th International Workshop on Hot Topics in Planet-scale mObile computing and online Social neTworking","volume":"49 25","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"113938855","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Using the measured data traces, we first study the distribution of inter-action-time between users. We find that the distribution in both cases follows a power law with an exponential decay. We further evaluate the message transmission time with the power law distribution, we show that the transmission delay in physical space (device to device) is competitive with that in virtual space. Our results provide a new insight on the link between the two spaces, and support the device-to-device communication in cyber-physical system with a delay-tolerant feature.","PeriodicalId":102278,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 7th International Workshop on Hot Topics in Planet-scale mObile computing and online Social neTworking","volume":"73 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127326186","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the age of the smartphone, mobile user scenarios become more and more important for Online Social Networks. Smartphones enable location-based and context-aware services, but bring the increased risk of privacy violations - at least in centralized OSN architectures. Decentralized Online Social Network architectures are promising as they inherently offer better privacy and less dependence on a single service provider, but they bring new challenges regarding core features of Online Social Networks. In this paper, we introduce a three-tiered view of the social graph and propose a new architecture for decentralized Online Social Networking applications, supporting the three-tiered view and focusing on location-based and context-aware user scenarios.","PeriodicalId":102278,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 7th International Workshop on Hot Topics in Planet-scale mObile computing and online Social neTworking","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124494947","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper investigates how social selfishness influences the performance of cooperative D2D communications. A physical-social model is established and a graph-based approach is adopted to obtain a matching solution between RDs and NRDs. Evaluations demonstrate that 1) communities with more members are more immune to social selfishness and 2) the impact of social selfishness on the number of selected RDs is the largest when the total numbers of NRDs and RDs are equal.","PeriodicalId":102278,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 7th International Workshop on Hot Topics in Planet-scale mObile computing and online Social neTworking","volume":"95 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126003904","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Researchers found out that the inhomogeneity in the spatio-temporal distribution of the data traffic leads to extremely insufficient utilization of network resources. Thus, it is important to fundamentally understand this distribution to help us make better resource planning or introduce new management tools such as time-dependent pricing to reduce the congestion. However, due to the requirement of a large dataset, a detailed, radical and credible network-wide study for the spatio-temporal distribution of mobile traffic is still lacking. In this work, we conduct such a measurement study. Base on a large-scale data set obtained from 380,000 base stations in Shanghai spanning over one month, we quantitatively characterize the spatio-temporal distribution of mobile traffic and present a detailed visualized analysis. Furthermore, on the basis of quantitative analysis, we find that the mobile traffic loads uniformly follow a trimodal distribution, which is the combination of compound-exponential, power-law and exponential distributions, in terms of both spatial and temporal dimension. Extensive results show that our model is with accuracy over 99%, which provides fundamental and credible guidelines for the practical solutions of the issues in mobile traffic operations.","PeriodicalId":102278,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 7th International Workshop on Hot Topics in Planet-scale mObile computing and online Social neTworking","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132966677","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Understanding mobile Apps usage pattern of end users will help to improve the quality of mobile Apps and meanwhile enhance the quality of experience of users. For instance, if the mobile device knows the App the user will launch, it can pre-load the App into memory and also put the quick launch icon on the home screen to speed up the App usage. In this paper, we collect mobile data from over 10,000 users and study the mobile Apps usage pattern from user perspective using the collected data on mobile devices, including time, location, last used App, network type, network speed and etc. We then use Naive Bayes and linear model to propose mobile App usage prediction method for the prediction of the next launched App by individuals. The result shows that the proposed App usage prediction method can reach 60% accuracy to predict the mobile App that will be launched by users.","PeriodicalId":102278,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 7th International Workshop on Hot Topics in Planet-scale mObile computing and online Social neTworking","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115999961","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
