Herein, a sustainable adsorption strategy based on a sulfonic acid group, triazine-based COFs (TD–COF–S) is proposed for selective lithium extraction. TD–COF–S is a crystalline porous material with well-defined pore sizes of 1.74 and 2.31 nm, a BET surface area of 429 m 2 /g, and 20 wt% sulfonic acid groups. The appropriate pore channels and adsorption sites facilitate the transfer and adsorption of lithium ions. At 200 mg/L Li + , equilibrium is reached within 1.5 h, achieving a capacity of 24.12 mg/g. After ten cycles, TD–COF–S retained 90.5 % of its initial Li + adsorption capacity, demonstrating exceptional cycling stability. Most importantly, the selectivity coefficient of TD–COF–S for Li + reached 111.4 in simulated brine (Mg 2+ /Li + =545). The exceptional adsorption performance of TD–COF–S underscores its promise as a suitable material for efficient capture of lithium-ion from salt-lake brines. • Sulfonic acid group was successfully grafted onto TD-COF via ring-opening nucleophilic substitution. • TD–COF–S showed 2.3-fold higher Li + uptake than TD-COF due to –SO 3 H sites. • TD–COF–S reached adsorption equilibrium in 1.5 h with Mg 2+ /Li + selectivity of 111.4.","PeriodicalId":101529,"journal":{"name":"Molecular Chemistry and Biomolecular Engineering","volume":"2 1","pages":"100036-100036"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2026-01-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147893831","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this work, the catalytic conversion of HMF to LA over zeolites with distinct topologies (ZSM-5/MFI, ZSM-22/TON, SSZ-13/CHA, Beta/∗BEA) was systematically investigated. The adsorption behavior of the substrate HMF was simulated by theoretical calculation of adsorption models. The results indicate that ZSM-5 outperformed ZSM-22 in terms of LA yield, which can be attributed to its suitable pore structure and optimal acid properties. After alkali post-treatment, the ZSM-5-0.1 catalyst exhibited a significant enhancement in LA yield, increasing from 42 % to 87 %. Furthermore, recyclability tests demonstrated that the ZSM-5-0.1 catalyst had a LA yield of approximately 70 % after five cycles. This study provides valuable theoretical insights for the selection of zeolite catalysts in the catalytic conversion of small biomass-derived molecules. • The catalytic conversion of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural to levulinic acid over zeolites was systematically investigated. • The selectivity of the ZSM-5-0.1 catalyst for levulinic acid after post-treatment is about 86 %. • The ZSM-5-0.1 catalyst still remained a LA yield of approximately 70 % after five cycles.","PeriodicalId":101529,"journal":{"name":"Molecular Chemistry and Biomolecular Engineering","volume":"1 2","pages":"100025-100025"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-11-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147332025","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, quantum interlocking of thermoelectric and charge transport in high-dimensional degenerate MXene limits their synergistic enhancement. Here, a multifunction-integration strategy was proposed by regulating competition of Seebeck coefficient and conductivity on carrier concentration, based on hetero-interface engineering of hierarchical “brick/mortar” structure. This structure with gradient impedance matching was designed by sandwiching an MXene inner layer between two hybrid-nanoparticle outer layers, which are assembled by tunicate cellulose nanocrystals (tCNCs) and ammonium polyphosphate (APP) inserting into MXene nanosheets (MAC) through hydrogen bonds and electrostatic interactions. The obtained 1.2 mm self-powered composite film (MAC@MX40) generates a maximum Seebeck voltage of 6.2 mV to trigger an alarm signal lasting over 113.28 s within 2.74 s upon exposure to flame without external power. An excellent absorption-domainance EMI shielding effectiveness of 64.3 dB within the frequency range of 8.2–12.4 GHz (X-band) is achieved, consistent with the result of finite element simulation. The good Joule heating capacity is confirmed by a tunable saturation temperature of 20–114 °C within 100 s under voltages 1–5 V. The tensile strength of 80.9 MPa and elongation at break of 5.9 % are also achieved, respectively increasing 99.9 % and 4.1 % compared to the MXene counterpart. This multifunction strategy simultaneously enables MXene-based films to be self-powered fire-sensing and EMI shielding for better life and property protection. • Promoted Seebeck effect for self-powered fire-sensing of MXene-based film. • Integrated multifunction via synergistic micro/macro hierarchical structural design. • 2.74 s sensitive response and 113.28 s alarm duration in self-powered mode. • 64.3 dB EMI SE and prediction model of finite element simulation.","PeriodicalId":101529,"journal":{"name":"Molecular Chemistry and Biomolecular Engineering","volume":"1 2","pages":"100010-100010"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-07-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147333507","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Despite the reported high C 3 H 6 /C 2 H 4 selectivity or substantial C 3 H 6 adsorption capacity exhibited by certain metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), the inherent trade-off between these two properties often results in a suboptimal yield of high-purity C 2 H 4 . In this study, we have synthesized a novel zinc-based metal-organic framework (Zn-ICA) featuring a cage-like porous architecture through the utilization of a 1H-indazole-5-carboxylic acid ligand. This MOF exhibits an exceptionally high C 3 H 6 adsorption capacity (199.6 cm 3 g −1 at 100 kPa and 298 K) coupled with a favorable C 3 H 6 /C 2 H 4 selectivity (8.8), surpassing numerous benchmark MOFs that have been previously documented for C 3 H 6 /C 2 H 4 separation applications. Molecular simulation analyses reveal that the enhanced interaction between C 3 H 6 and the framework is attributable to the presence of π-bonds and accessible N/O sites within the ligand. Notably, breakthrough experiments have unequivocally demonstrated that this MOF is capable of achieving a record-breaking productivity (124.6 L kg −1 ) of polymer-grade C 2 H 4 (≥99.95 %) when employed for the separation of an equimolar C 3 H 6 /C 2 H 4 mixture, thereby positioning it as a highly promising advanced adsorbent for MTO product separation. • The MOF exhibits high C 3 H 6 adsorption capacity and high C 3 H 6 /C 2 H 4 selectivity. • Significant C 2 H 4 productivities can be achieved within a single separation cycle. • The presence of supramolecular binding sites facilitates the interaction between C 3 H 6 and the MOF. • The MOF exhibits favorable adsorption cycling performance along with a relatively low adsorption heat.","PeriodicalId":101529,"journal":{"name":"Molecular Chemistry and Biomolecular Engineering","volume":"1 1","pages":"100007-100007"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-07-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147331577","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, its capture efficiency significantly decreases at lower CO 2 concentrations typically encountered in industrial flue gases (below 15 vol%). Therefore, enhancing the adsorption performance of Li 4 SiO 4 under low CO 2 partial pressures through doping modification is critical for practical applications. This study systematically investigates the impact of alkali metal (K and Na) and alkaline earth metal (Mg and Ca) doping on the CO 2 capture performance of Li 4 SiO 4 . The results showed that doping significantly improved the adsorption capacity and cyclic stability of Li 4 SiO 4 under low CO 2 concentrations. Specifically, at a CO 2 concentration of 5 vol%, pure Li 4 SiO 4 exhibits a dynamic equilibrium capture capacity of 5.70 wt%, whereas the doped samples—Li 4 SiO 4 –15Na, Li 4 SiO 4 –15K, Li 4 SiO 4 –15Mg, and Li 4 SiO 4 –25Ca—achieve significantly enhanced capacities of 19.73 wt%,15.41 wt%, 11.62 wt%, and 13.19 wt%, respectively. Although Mg-doped and Ca-doped samples demonstrate relatively poor stability during multiple desorption cycles, samples doped with Na and K exhibit excellent cycling durability. These findings provide valuable insights for optimizing Li 4 SiO 4 -based adsorbents and support their practical application in industrial carbon capture processes. • Na,K,Mg,Ca doping boosts Li 4 SiO 4 CO 2 uptake and cyclic stability at low concentrations. • Na/K-doped Li 4 SiO 4 shows top low-CO 2 stability with minimal degradation. • Na/K-Li 4 SiO 4 excels in low-CO 2 capture aiding practical industrial use.","PeriodicalId":101529,"journal":{"name":"Molecular Chemistry and Biomolecular Engineering","volume":"1 1","pages":"100006-100006"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-07-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147332477","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
