However, failure to access technology could result in missed resources and opportunities, with some in this age group being hesitant to adopt new technology due to unfamiliarity or fear. Telehealth, as a form of digital technology, holds the potential to overcome geographic and temporal limitations, enabling socially isolated and physically homebound older adults to access a broader spectrum of healthcare options. Despite the potential advantages, the availability, acceptability, and accessibility of telehealth interventions for aging care remain unclear. This study aims to examine the impact of digital technologies on access to health and social care for older adults while identifying socioeconomic factors that may hinder access to services. We utilized the 2021 Medicare Current Beneficiary Survey COVID-19 Winter Supplement Public Use File dataset and the total sample size was 10,592 Medicare beneficiaries aged 65 years and above. Several statistical analyses, including multivariable logistic regression, were conducted. Our findings revealed that individuals from Black non-Hispanic and Hispanic racial and ethnic groups, as well as those with lower income and residing in non-metro areas, had lower odds of using technology devices and accessing the internet, This highlights the need for targeted interventions and policies to promote equitable access to digital resources and healthcare services for all seniors. Moreover, seniors who possess technology devices and have internet access are more inclined to engage with primary care providers (PCPs) who provide telehealth consultations. The study discussed future directions and limitations, providing valuable insights into the intersection of digital technology, healthcare access, and socioeconomic factors for older adults.</p></div>","PeriodicalId":101213,"journal":{"name":"Telematics and Informatics Reports","volume":"12 ","pages":"Article 100103"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49757256","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although the potential advantages and increasing prevalence of biometric authentication in both public and private sectors are evident, its adoption by end-users has been comparatively sluggish. To investigate the driving forces behind individual acceptance of new technologies, we developed a comprehensive the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and examined the impact of novel constructs such as Personal Innovativeness (PI), Perceived Enjoyment (PE), Trust (T), Personal Innovativeness (PI), and Perceived Risk (PR). This study involves two phases of data collection, which involves the use of two biometric authentication devices (Palm Vein Scanner and Face Authentication device). In each phase, 100 voluntary participants interact with a biometric authentication device mounted on a self-service coffee machine. The goodness-of-fit of the collected data to the model is verified, and both the proposed model and the hypotheses are evaluated using the Structural Equation Modelling (SEM). The findings substantiate that users’ Perceived Enjoyment (PE) with facial authentication devices positively affects their Perceived Ease of Use (PEU). Perceived Usefulness (PU) was found to significantly influence the user’s Attitude Towards Usage (ATU) of the face Authentication device, while PEU and ATU were found to be in an inverse relationship. The construct T proved having a positive effect on the user’s ATU, which in turn has a significant influence on the BI of the user. These crucial factors determine the adoption of facial Authentication technology for daily usage. Moreover, this study shows that PR is the main hindrance to users accepting Facial Authentication technology. To have a more comprehensive insight into influential factors in accepting new biometric technology, we combine the collected data for both phases and analyse the feedback from participants interacting with both biometric authentication devices.</p></div>","PeriodicalId":101213,"journal":{"name":"Telematics and Informatics Reports","volume":"12 ","pages":"Article 100099"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49757468","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Two hundred undergraduate students (aged 18–21 years) were recruited from Science, Social Science, and Arts faculties. They each had 30 min to browse one of two network architectures: a simple hierarchal structure, or a complex relational structure. After the session, they took a test on the content of the network, completed the Internet Addiction Test (IAT), and were asked about their time spent on the internet. There was no effect of university faculty (subject) on any of the results. More pages were revisited using the hierarchical than the relational network structure. However, there were interactions between levels of internet addiction (IAT score) and the type of network. Participants who had lower IAT scores, exposed to hierarchical network, visited a greater proportion of pages, revisited fewer pages, and achieved higher test scores, than lower IAT scorers exposed to the relational network. However, participants with higher IAT scores showed little difference in performance between the networks. There was little impact of IAT score on performance on hierarchical networks, but performance on relational networks improved as IAT scores increased. These data suggest that simple hierarchical networks are better for those with lower internet addiction (as measured by low IAT scores), but there is little difference in network for those with higher internet addiction (higher IAT scores).</p></div>","PeriodicalId":101213,"journal":{"name":"Telematics and Informatics Reports","volume":"12 ","pages":"Article 100102"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49730664","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although personality traits have been found to be related to deception in traditional contexts, less is known about how this relationship translates to an online setting. The current study investigates the relationships between the dark tetrad traits (Machiavellianism, psychopathy, narcissism, and sadism), self-esteem, and online identity-based deception. A combined student and community sample (<em>N</em> = 342, 18 – 72 years old, 70.2% female) was asked if they had previously engaged in eight common identity-based deceptive behaviours on social networking sites (e.g., used a fake name, created a fake profile). Personality traits were measured using the Short Dark Triad, the Short Sadistic Impulse Scale, and the Rosenburg Self-Esteem Scale. Overall, engagement in identity-based deception was found to be common on social networking sites. Machiavellianism emerged as a unique predictor of using a fake name and altering one's age with higher Machiavellianism also associated with a greater frequency of lying about one's name, age, appearance, and relationship status. Psychopathy, however, failed to uniquely predict any of the online-deceptive behaviours examined when controlling for other personality variables. Together, these findings suggest that online identity-based deception is a calculated endeavour.</p></div>","PeriodicalId":101213,"journal":{"name":"Telematics and Informatics Reports","volume":"11 ","pages":"Article 100075"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49710957","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, traditional IDS approaches face challenges in accurately detecting complex and evolving cyber threats. The proposed framework leverages the power of deep learning to automatically extract meaningful features from network traffic data, enabling more accurate and robust intrusion detection. The proposed deep convolutional neural network (DCNN) has been trained on large-scale datasets, incorporating both normal and malicious network traffic, to enable effective discrimination between normal and anomalous behavior. To evaluate the performance of the framework, a comprehensive performance evaluation approach is developed, considering key metrics such as detection accuracy, false positive rate, and computational efficiency. Additionally, GPU has been utilized for boosting the performance of the model, demonstrating the effectiveness and superiority of the deep CNN-based intrusion detection system over traditional methods. The novelty of this study lies in the development of a dependable intrusion detection system that harnesses the potential of DCNN for network traffic analysis. The proposed framework is evaluated with four publicly available IDS datasets, namely ISCX-IDS 2012, DDoS (Kaggle), CICIDS2017, and CICIDS2018. Our results demonstrate the effectiveness of the optimized DCNN model in improving IDS performance and accuracy. With detection accuracy levels ranging from 99.79% to 100%, our results underscore the model’s efficacy, offering a dependable and efficient approach for the detection of cyber threats. The outcomes of this study have significant implications for network security, providing valuable insights for practitioners and researchers working towards building robust and intelligent intrusion detection systems.</p></div>","PeriodicalId":101213,"journal":{"name":"Telematics and Informatics Reports","volume":"11 ","pages":"Article 100077"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49733076","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Organizations’ analysis methods of huge customer-related data have been subjected to a massive change because of the Artificial Intelligence (AI) integrated CRMS. This integration enables healthcare institutes to quickly and precisely analyze the tremendous volume of patient-related data in order to make accurate, and automated decisions. On the contrary to prior surveys in the healthcare domain, which mainly focused on the individual acceptance of innovation, this study tries to consider both organizational and human-related factors to provide a better understanding of the CRMS adoption in hospitals. This paper will be the first of its kind to analyze and categorize parameters contributing to CRMS adoption in healthcare by introducing an integrated framework, including Human, Technology, Organization, Environment, and Cost (HTOEC) dimensions. The fuzzy Decision-Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) method is applied to find the interdependence among adoption dimensions and variables. The Maximum Mean de-Entropy (MMDE) algorithm is exploited to choose the optimum threshold value in the DEMATEL method. The fuzzy Analytic Network Process (ANP) is deployed to prioritize adoption parameters. Based on the results, Environment and Human dimensions are the most crucial determinants of CRMS adoption in Iranian hospitals.</p></div>","PeriodicalId":101213,"journal":{"name":"Telematics and Informatics Reports","volume":"11 ","pages":"Article 100078"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49710959","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
