The team synthesized a perylene diimide derivative, PDI-COOH, which showed distinctive enhanced fluorescence when combined with calcium ion in THF/H2O solution. They studied the assembly and fluorescence behavior of PDI-COOH/Ca2+ under different hydration states, proposing the fluorescence emission mechanism of PDI-COOH/Ca2+ in THF/H2O and THF.
