Full utilization of the potential provided by the hardware, always depends on effective software. In this context there is an on-going search for fast algorithms for sequential adjustment. The performance of such algorithms can best be judged by practical tests using software which is as close as possible to the real application. This paper discusses an algorithm based on Givens transformations, and includes the results of a comparative test of this algorithm and the Triangular Factor Update. In the test, the Givens transformations algorithm appears to be up to four times faster than the Triangular Factor Update for updating the factorized normal equation system.</p></div>","PeriodicalId":101020,"journal":{"name":"Photogrammetria","volume":"43 3","pages":"Pages 143-156"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1989-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1016/0031-8663(89)90011-2","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86339999","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With this in mind, standard photogrammetric tasks are evaluated to see how easy or difficult they might be to automate digitally. The result is that all tasks, except feature extraction, can be performed automatically using techniques already in place. Several digital image photogrammetric systems are then outlined to show what capabilities are needed. An evolution from film-based hybrid systems to intrinsically digital systems is anticipated. Also, the use of digital image photogrammetry in the industrial arena is expected to become a significant new application area. In this evolution, software is seen as an increasingly important system component, capable of becoming the part which is specifically photogrammetric in future processing systems.</p></div>","PeriodicalId":101020,"journal":{"name":"Photogrammetria","volume":"43 2","pages":"Pages 57-71"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1988-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1016/0031-8663(88)90022-1","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"91637536","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
