Rolling is possible only under the condition of change in the positions of the neutral points on the arcs of contact. The result of a change in the distance between these neutral points is an apparent change in the length of the metal between the horizontal and vertical rolls, and thus an apparent change in the coefficient of elasticity of the metal between the two stands. On this basis a method has been adopted for the modelling of the interaction between two continuous rolling mills, designed for the rolling of a rigid charge (i.e. of a large cross-section such as a slab, a bloom, a plate, etc.).

","PeriodicalId":100801,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Mechanical Working Technology","volume":"19 3","pages":"Pages 275-283"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1989-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1016/0378-3804(89)90077-6","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"91603512","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The paper addresses three major issues: conceptual assembly design representation, assemblability analysis, and assembly plan generation. The objective of the study is to develop an effective way to model and plan for the assembly of a product. It is hoped that noty assembly planning can be automated, but also the feedback provided by the planning system can help to improve the design from a manufacturing point of view. Since the feasibility of automating the assembly plan generation depends on whether the assembly design is represented in a complete, unambiguous, and easy to use form, the design representation is the first issue addressed. In order to ensure the “manufacturability” of an assembly, the assemblability of the design must be analyzed at the early design stage. This analysis can be viewed as a rough planning. It provides the designer a quick feedback, thus the design can be changed before it is finalized. Before the actual assembly can be conducted, a detailed assembly plan must be prepared. Such an assembly plan is used for shop scheduling, and sometimes assembly system design.

","PeriodicalId":100801,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Mechanical Working Technology","volume":"20 ","pages":"Pages 237-248"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1989-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1016/0378-3804(89)90034-X","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"91721961","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Using the CATIA solid modeller, a 3-D curve was first created using both a single arc and a spline followed by a surface patch. The surface generated by the two spline curves was faceted in appearance when machined, whereas that of the single arcs was smooth. An NC part program was generated interactively with dynamic, on-screen tool path display. However, because it was inconvenient to change the machining parameters, such as feedrate, within the NC program, a custom macro was written to make the NC program more readily modifiable. Machining tests carried out on aluminum and carbon steel test specimens yielded encouraging results. In the computer-assisted measurement of the surface on a CNC CMM, the VDA (Verband der Automobilindustrie Surface Data Communication Interface was adopted as the medium for data exchange between the CAD/CAM system and the CNC CMM. Instead of the SURF (surface) function, measurement was accomplished using a sequence of discrete measurement points, PSET.

","PeriodicalId":100801,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Mechanical Working Technology","volume":"20 ","pages":"Pages 171-180"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1989-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1016/0378-3804(89)90028-4","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"91757792","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
