Several shorter BCH codes for correction of 1 to 3 errors (codeword length is less or equal to 15) are chosen. The look-up table method both for the encoding and for the decoding is used. The ECE is intended for use on simplex, half and full duplex channels for the transmission rates of 50–9600 b/s, so both forward error correction and hybrid techniques are implemented.
