Balanitis and balanoposthitis resulting from traumatic, irritant, allergic or infective causes, manifestation of common cutaneous and general diseases, specific dermatoses of genital area and premalignant and malignant lesions can be distinguished. Normal aspects are explained because they may generate anxiety in the patient. The differences between the circumcised and uncircumcised penile skin that induce different incidence and appearance of glans and corona dermatoses are studied. Although infrequent, penile tumours induce difficult diagnosis and therapeutic challenge. The major problem is to establish early diagnosis. Sexually transmitted diseases, condylomas, herpes, genital ulcerations and uretritis are excluded from this work.</p></div>","PeriodicalId":100421,"journal":{"name":"EMC - Dermatologie-Cosmétologie","volume":"2 1","pages":"Pages 43-63"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1016/j.emcdc.2005.04.002","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"72070555","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Dermatology, like many other medical specialities, has largely benefited from the development of techniques increasingly efficient, simple and accurate, both in terms of diagnosis and concerning the understanding of various affections (mainly genodermatoses, and tumoural, infectious and inflammatory disorders). In this setting, the genetic background of most genodermatoses has been identified but genotype-phenotype relationship remains to be established in a large number of affections.
