All input and output streams were analyzed for physical, chemical and microbiological impact. Some mutagenic studies were also conducted. Numerous samples were analyzed over a period of three years for variables of regulatory concern. A few samples were intensively analyzed for trace and ultratrace compounds in the USEPA priority pollutant list. Materials amounting to 33 – 39% of the throughput are recovered in the Shredding and Separation Facility, which consists of a manual separation system, a mechanical separation system, a shredder, a pair of shears and incinerators.</p><p>The facility system is shown in order of processing of the waste. The secondary pollution control, safety equipment, instrumentation, etc., are also described.
