Indeed, the industry is expecting further increases in smart cards across a range of sectors with IMS Research reporting there will be more smart cards than people by the end of this year – more than 7 billion cards. Smart cards are now being used for a vast array of applications and in more areas of the world than ever before. The aspect of security, however, is still at the forefront of customers’ and operators’ minds.
