{"title":"Anti-IgE therapy for asthma","authors":"Susan Berg","doi":"10.1016/S1088-0712(05)00043-9","DOIUrl":"10.1016/S1088-0712(05)00043-9","url":null,"abstract":"<div><p><span>In June 2003, Xolair, the first anti-IgE medication, received FDA approval, bringing hope and relief to adults and adolescents (12 years and over) with uncontrolled allergic asthma. Xolair has been touted as a breakthrough treatment for asthma, and rightly so. In two pivotal clinical trials, Xolair reduced asthma attacks by half and improved patients' asthma symptoms and ability to breathe (</span><em>J Allergy Clin Immun</em> 2001;108:184-190, and <em>Eur Respi</em>r J 2001;18:254-261).
