Previous work has mostly focused on the reporting quality of clinical trials and observational longitudinal studies. However, few studies have examined the reporting quality of trend analyses. Moreover, the reporting of recommended statistical metrics in trend analyses remains largely unclear. Therefore, we assessed the reporting quality of trend analyses based on reporting of recommended statistical metrics. We systematically searched the PubMed for the trend-analysis articles published in 10 leading medicine and oncology journals over an 11-year period (2008-2018). Studies published after 2019 were excluded due to a sudden, significant increase in publication numbers during and immediately after the COVID-19 pandemic. Only original articles, research letters, and meta-analyses/systematic reviews were included. We scored the reporting quality of these articles based on whether they reported <i>p</i>-values, effect sizes, beta/coefficient/slope/annual-percentage-change (APC). 297 articles met the inclusion criteria. Among these, 193 (66.0%) reported <i>p</i>-values and 216 (72.7%) reported effect sizes. Only 13 (5.8%) analyses reported neither <i>p</i>-values/effect sizes nor beta/coefficient/slope/APC. In multivariable regression models, authors affiliated with epidemiology departments were less likely to report effect sizes, whereas those from statistics departments were more likely to do so. Interestingly, U.S.-based senior authors (versus non-U.S.) more likely reported <i>p</i>-values. No factors were independently associated with reporting APC. Overall, the reporting quality of trend analyses in leading medicine and oncology journals appears moderate and warrants improvement. We thus call for increased awareness and further research on reporting quality in trend analyses in oncology research and beyond.</p>","PeriodicalId":94008,"journal":{"name":"Exploratory research and hypothesis in medicine","volume":"10 4","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC12826571/pdf/","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"146055628","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Such changes are particularly relevant in cases where Takotsubo cardiomyopathy is associated with subarachnoid hemorrhage, and treatment of acute coronary syndrome with antiplatelet drugs is contraindicated. We describe a case of a 68-year-old woman, who developed ventricular changes consistent with Takotsubo cardiomyopathy following an aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage. The patient presented with collapse and vomiting, initial workup revealed anterior ST-elevation electrocardiogram changes, increased troponin I, and a chest radiograph suggestive of acute cardiac failure. In light of this, the patient was managed initially as an acute coronary syndrome with antiplatelet medication. An echocardiogram showed acute left ventricular systolic dysfunction with apical ballooning. After 3 days of hospitalization, she became increasingly drowsy with a worsening headache. Computed tomography of the head revealed intracerebral hemorrhage and bilateral subarachnoid hemorrhage and computed tomography angiography demonstrated a 9 × 5 mm A2 aneurysm. She subsequently underwent embolization to treat the ruptured aneurysm. She recovered well neurologically, and subsequent cardiac imaging revealed a complete resolution of her prior issues.","PeriodicalId":94008,"journal":{"name":"Exploratory research and hypothesis in medicine","volume":"68 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135730748","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The inability of nurses to immediately detect extravasation often leads to severe consequences, including disability and even death. This increases the pain and treatment costs for children and places a heavy burden on healthcare professionals, hospitals, and society. Neonatal infusion extravasation is widespread during intravenous infusion and is influenced by various factors. Therefore, this article aims to review the research progress on relevant influencing factors that cause neonatal infusion extravasation.","PeriodicalId":94008,"journal":{"name":"Exploratory research and hypothesis in medicine","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135855282","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With the advancement in machine learning algorithms and bioinformatics techniques, AI has become an essential part of modern healthcare society. AI algorithms and deep learning applications support clinicians with managing health records, making diagnoses and clinical decisions, prescribing medication, determining mental health, and imaging analysis. Clinicians gain rapid access to information and research relevant to the needs of the patients. As some algorithms compete with and sometimes outperform clinicians, it is necessary to fully integrate this technology into daily medical practices. However, we must recognize the strengths and weaknesses of AI, and obtain the perspectives of experts outside the medical field to enable the inclusion of the ethical, philosophical, sociological, psychological, behavioral, and economical aspects of machine behavior when understanding the evolving interaction of machines with humans, so that it can be used for advantageous purposes. AI technology cannot be considered a replacement for physicians, rather it can act as multiple task-oriented device support to ease the burden on clinicians so that they can provide better care of life to patients at every level.","PeriodicalId":94008,"journal":{"name":"Exploratory research and hypothesis in medicine","volume":"179 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135060917","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
