Only recently some attempts have been made to relate famine to the other demographic processes of fertility, marriage and migration. Based on five case-studies, this article tries to identify the often complex interrelationships between famine and the major demographic processes. At the same time, attention is paid to the interactions between the demographic processes themselves. Furthermore, two conceptual frameworks examining these relationships are discussed. Finally, the importance of this subject both for the study of demographic behaviour and for famine relief programmes is stressed.\" (SUMMARY IN ENG)</p>","PeriodicalId":85797,"journal":{"name":"Tijdschrift voor sociale wetenschappen","volume":"37 1","pages":"1-24"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1992-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"22014899","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Le seul mérite de Walras (et de Cassel) est d’avoir exprimé la dite théorie dans une forme plus claire et plus précise. D’autre part, il est improbable que l’analyse “input-output” soit issue de la théorie de Walras et des physiocrates, comme on l’affirme généralement. Leontief est originaire de Russie et il est hors de doute que, dès le début des années vingt, il a eu connaissance des tableaux “en échiquier” qui y avaient été établis et qui, en fait, étaient des tableaux “input-output”. Paradoxalement, on constate que les économistes russes n’ont plus établi les dits tableaux et que c’est grace aux travaux de Leontief, Russe emigré en Amérique, ancien étudiant de l’Université de Leningrad, que la méthode en question suscite, a nouveau, en U.R.S.S. un intérêt intense. La possibilité d’utiliser des ordinateurs (qui n’existaient pas il y a trente ans) pour le calcul des tableaux “input-output” est peut-être la raison principale de ce regain d’intérêt. On peut s’attendre à ce que cette méthode devienne bientót un instrument de base de la politique êconomique en U.R.S.S. En “Occident”, au contraire, elle risque de rester purement académique par suite de la pénurie de fonds, du manque de données statistiques süres et du fait que certains milieux intéressés craignent que pareils tableaux n’incitent les autorités a s’immiscer davantage dans Involution économique.","PeriodicalId":85797,"journal":{"name":"Tijdschrift voor sociale wetenschappen","volume":"12 1","pages":"20-42"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1967-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://openjournals.ugent.be/tvsw/article/id/95765/download/pdf/","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147918300","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
