The discrepancy between stated attitudes toward abortion and observed behaviour is viewed from the perspective of the same three theoretical positions. Also discussed are the variations of abortion decision-making and post-abortal sequelae pre dicted by the three theories. The theoretical issues, and implications from them, are discussed throughout the paper at both the individual and the societal level.","PeriodicalId":84849,"journal":{"name":"Health education bulletin","volume":"32 ","pages":"4-9"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1973-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1177/001789697303200102","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"22002559","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Reasons given include: a desire for many children for personal, economic and tribal security reasons; fear of high mortality; need for children as a labor resource; will of God; and personal pride in many sons. A change in attitudes toward acceptance of family planning may be attained by effective communication (not merely transmission of information), by involvement of community innovators; and by personalized persuasion thru material and child welfare services. The use of trained midwives concentrating on ante and postnatal care would be an asset to the program.","PeriodicalId":84849,"journal":{"name":"Health education bulletin","volume":"29 ","pages":"108-11"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1970-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1177/001789697002900402","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"22032365","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
