Rebound suppression often involves high energy dissipation, while rebound enhancement requires minimal energy loss, rendering them traditionally considered mutually exclusive. Here, we present a unique bouncing behavior of pomegranate-like compound drops, signifying a remarkable transition from suppression to enhancement achieved solely by increasing the volume fraction (Φ) of dispersed droplets. The transition is induced by the jamming of dispersed droplets when Φ becomes sufficiently high. In the non-jamming state at low Φ, rebound suppression is governed by heightened viscous dissipation due to highly disordered internal flow. Conversely, in the jamming state at high Φ, the densely packed dispersed droplets constrain internal flow, and rebound enhancement emerges due to increased capacity for energy storage. The coexistence of rebound suppression and enhancement enriches our understanding of drop impact dynamics and unlocks possibilities for the precise and adaptable control of complex drops in various applications.","PeriodicalId":80456,"journal":{"name":"Andover Newton quarterly","volume":"2 2","pages":"100298-100298"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-11-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147898328","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
