We tested the feasibility of using muscle co-contraction as a metric to quantify robotic surgical skill in a virtual simulation environment. We recruited six volunteers with varying skill levels in robotic surgery. The volunteers performed virtual tasks using a robotic console while we recorded their muscle activity. A co-contraction metric was then derived from the activity of pairs of opposing hand muscles and compared to the scores assigned by the training software. We found that muscle-based metrics were more sensitive than motion-based scores in quantifying the different levels of skill between simulated tasks and in novices vs. experts across different tasks. Therefore, muscle-based metrics may help quantify in general terms the level of robotic surgical skill and could potentially be used for biofeedback to increase the rate of learning.</p>","PeriodicalId":72023,"journal":{"name":"... The proposed modified equations are capable of accurately extracting the unknown parameters as well as the values at the three remarkable points for every increase in temperature is also presented. These were all programmed in a Matlab using the iterative Newton-Raphson method. Results of the study are consistent with the experimental I-V and P-V characteristics for the modules under study. Nevertheless, the datasheet of the photovoltaic module provided contains current-voltage characteristics by various manufacturers with all the parameters selected at the standard test condition (STC). Furthermore, this paper ventures to point out that the resistance in series and parallel, vary significantly with variation in temperature and irradiance, and these parameters amongst others determine the durability of PV cells and are very important for the electrical characterization of a photovoltaic module. Hence, the model parameters of any PV cell operates depending on the irradiance intensity level and temperature of the environment, the reliance on the electrical parameters of these cells are discussed under the effect of various temperature and irradiation, at the short-circuit current, open-circuit voltage and maximum power slopes of the I-V curve.","PeriodicalId":72023,"journal":{"name":"... Two types of 3rd order low-pass filter are proposed: stepped impedance low-pass filter and stub low-pass filter. Using the proposed concepts, three filters were designed and fabricated using microstrip technology on alumina substrate. The experimental results show improvements in the out-of-band response of the resonators.","PeriodicalId":72023,"journal":{"name":"... The diseased oil palm plants normally shows a range of symptoms such as coloured spots or streaks that will occur on the leaves, stems, and seeds of the plant. At present, in the agricultural sectors, diagnosing the type disease of plants are based on human expert, which is alongside with the conventional method applied using test device and performing laboratory test. Therefore, the needs in new approach to classify type of diseases are preferable. Hence, the aim of this paper is to focus on an innovative method based on image processing technique for classifying the lack of nutritional disease occurred in oil palm leaves by analyzing the leave surface only. The result is usable as a guide for fertilization since the trees respond rapidly to the applied fertilizers. The main important concern is to ensure the sufficient amount of fertilizer since excessive intake of fertilizers will cause toxicity to trees and indirectly increase cost of fertilizers. Images of oil palm leaves will be captured using high-end digital imaging device to analyse the leaves surface. Further, feature extraction algorithms also will develop based on shape, texture, and colour of the disease type. The feature vectors will be attained acting as inputs to fuzzy classifier. Overall, the proposed method will benefit the oil palm industries to fulfill the industry demand.","PeriodicalId":72023,"journal":{"name":"...
