Jin","doi":"10.4028/www.scientific.net/AMR.815.251","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.4028/www.scientific.net/AMR.815.251","url":null,"abstract":"The effective strain size and distribution of Al-5Ti-1B alloy deformed by equal channel angular pressing (ECAP) were investigated through the finite element simulation by the die with outer corner ψ=0°, 20°, 30° and the friction coefficient f=0, 0.2, 0.3. The simulation results show that the effective strains decrease with the increase of the outer corner ψ from 0° to 30° with a constant f; the more uniform deformation were obtained under the conditions of large friction than that of small friction. Al-5Ti-1B alloy was produced by once path ECAP at room temperature under the die with the corner angle φ=90° and ψ=20°. The optical microscope and compressing test machine were performed. The results indicate that the grain size was obviously refined. The simulation results show that two topological transformations exist during the grain growth—Neighbor Switching and Grain Annihilation; and we have found different kinds of topological events during the disappearance of a grain: direct vanishing of trilateral grain and pentagonal grain, as well as neighbor switching,which are right with classical topological theory and Euler formula. The results show that with proper content of Sb addition,the microstructure of Mg-5.5Al-1.2Y magnesium alloy is refined obviously and high melting point intermetallic compounds Sb3Y5 and Mg3Sb2 are formed. Meanwhile, the β-Mg17Al12 phase is more distributed. With the increase of Sb addition, the mechanical properties of the alloy at room and elevated temperature increase at first, and then decrease. The influences of RE elements on refinements and structures were studied and the mechanism of RE was discussed. The results show that by adding proper amounts of Cu-RE refining agents into impure-coppers, the refinements of RE on impure-coppers are perfect.
