The objective of this research was to discover the influence of extraction method to the properties of α-cellulose from abaca stem (Musa textilis). The first method was the alkalization without heating process, the second method was alkalization that assisted with heating process at temperature of 80°C, and the third method was a combination between acid hydrolysis and alkalization at temperature of 80°C. The obtained α-cellulose was characterized using FT-IR, SEM, and XRD. The FT-IR spectra showed the α-cellulose that prepared using third method can separated lignin and hemicellulose from abaca fiber. SEM analysis showed the third method gave the smooth surface of α-cellulose. The crystallinity of α-cellulose was 43, 65, and 79% for first until third method.","PeriodicalId":6821,"journal":{"name":"3RD INTERNATIONAL POSTGRADUATE CONFERENCE ON MATERIALS, MINERALS & POLYMER (MAMIP) 2019","volume":"65 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85439638","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The mechanical test include tensile and flexural properties. The fiber length distributions were conducted using acid digestion method, while the tribology test using pin-on-disk configuration. Several composition of PC based matrix with SCF as the reinforcement and PTFE as the dispersed phase were studied. The samples were prepared by mean of single screw extrusion and injection molding processes. The results showed that as CF are added, tensile and flexural strength increases. Whilst the addition of PTFE shows negative impact on both tensile and flexural. its influence on wear rate and coefficient of friction is very promising. The incorporation of CF and PTFE into PC show effective tribology-improving capabilities. The combinative effect of CF and PTFE are shown to be able to further enhance the friction and wear properties of PC matrix.","PeriodicalId":6821,"journal":{"name":"3RD INTERNATIONAL POSTGRADUATE CONFERENCE ON MATERIALS, MINERALS & POLYMER (MAMIP) 2019","volume":"127 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80986701","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
