Our work illuminates the role of particle concentration,nadhesion strength, and membrane tension in determining the membranenmorphology. We combined giant unilamellar vesicles with oppositelyncharged nanorods, carefully tuning the adhesion strength, membranentension, and particle concentration. With increasing adhesion strength,nthe primary behaviors observed were membrane deformation, vesicle–vesiclenadhesion, and vesicle rupture. These behaviors were observed in well-definednregions in the parameter space with sharp transitions between them.nWe observed the deformation of the membrane resulting in tubulation,ntextured surfaces, and small and large lipid–particle aggregates.nThese responses are robust and repeatable and provide a new physicalnunderstanding of the dependence on the shape, binding affinity, andnparticle concentration in membrane remodeling. The design principlesnderived from these experiments may lead to new bioinspired membrane-basednmaterials.","PeriodicalId":523632,"journal":{"name":"Figshare","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1753-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147919293","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
