However, due to thenlack of commercially available chemical standards, routine quantificationnof industrially relevant lignin oligomers in complex lignin samplesnremains a challenge. This study presents a novel method for universalnquantification of lignin dimers based on supercritical fluid chromatographynwith charged aerosol detection (CAD). A series of lignin-derived dimericncompounds that have been reported from reductive catalytic fractionationn(RCF) were synthesized and used as standards. The applicability ofnusing linear regression instead of quadratic calibration curves wasnevaluated over a concentration range of 15–125 mg/L, demonstratingnthat the former calibration method is as appropriate as the latter.nThe response factors of lignin dimeric compounds were compared tonassess the uniformity of the CAD signal, revealing that the CAD responsenfor the tested lignin dimers did not differ substantially. It wasnalso found that the response factors were not dependent on the numbernof methoxy groups or linkage motifs, ultimately enabling the use ofnonly one calibrant for these compounds. The importance of chromatographicnpeak resolution in CAD was stressed, and the use of a digital peaknsharpening technique was adopted and applied to address this challenge.nThe developed method was verified and used for the quantificationnof lignin dimers in an oil obtained by a RCF of birch sawdust.","PeriodicalId":522564,"journal":{"name":"Figshare","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147899410","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
