Here, we used platelet lysate (PL), a hemoderivativenof platelets, consisting of a multifactorial cocktail of growth factors,nto modify porous silicon (PSi) microparticles and assessed both in vitro and ex vivo the properties ofnthe developed microsystem. PL-modified PSi was assessed for its potentialnto induce proliferation of fibroblasts. The wound closure-promotingnproperties of the microsystem were then assessed in an innvitro wound healing assay. Finally, the PL-modified PSi microparticlesnwere evaluated in an ex vivo experiment over humannskin. It was shown that PL-modified PSi microparticles were cytocompatiblenand enhanced the cell proliferation in different experimental settings.nIn addition, this microsystem promoted the closure of the gap betweennthe fibroblast cells in the wound healing assay, in periods of timencomparable with the positive control, and induced a proliferationnand regeneration process onto the human skin in an ex vivo experiment. Overall, our results show that PL-modified PSi microparticlesnare suitable microsystems for further development toward applicationsnin the treatment of chronic nonhealing wounds.","PeriodicalId":521771,"journal":{"name":"Figshare","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-02-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147885541","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
