However, traditional ultrasound transducers obstruct the light path, thereby complicating the alignment of the optical and acoustic paths. This study introduces a transparent ultrasound transducer (TUT) fabricated from lithium niobate, specifically designed to facilitate the alignment of the optical and acoustic paths. Indium tin oxide (ITO) is used as the transparent electrode of the TUT, providing transmittance higher than 70% at wavelengths critical for GCaMP imaging. This system supports simultaneous ultrasound stimulation and imaging without optical interference, effectively accommodating the needs of dual-channel widefield GCaMP imaging. By alternating between blue and violet light for stimulation, our system allows for the distinction between neural and non-neural activity.
","PeriodicalId":521022,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the ... This study utilizes ultrasound-based Pulse Wave Imaging (PWI) and Vector Flow Imaging (VFI) to track vessel wall displacement caused by arterial pulse wave propagation and blood flow velocity at a high frame rate (3.3 kHz) to estimate localized arterial wall stiffness through an Inverse problem setting. We propose a physics-informed neural network (PINN) model to assess spatially varying arterial stiffness, integrating linearized 1D differential equations of pulse wave propagation in flexible tubes. Its effectiveness is validated through in silico data from a finite-difference 1D simulation and a plaque phantom. The proposed PINN model accurately captures localized compliance variations, reflecting arterial wall stiffness in both in-silico and phantom experiments. Future research will aim to incorporate non-linearities in the governing equations and expand the neural network to accommodate higher-dimensional spatial and temporal data.
","PeriodicalId":521022,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the ... In this approach, which we call shearwave reciprocity imaging (SRI), acoustic radiation force is used to push on the medium at one location while displacement is tracked at a second location. The push and track locations are then transposed. Differences in the measured displacements reveal differences in acoustic radiation force due to differences in attenuation. In contrast to shear wave elastography, the use of mechanical reciprocity ensures that this approach provides attenuation images independent of tissue elasticity. Imaging was performed with a Verasonics Vantage 64 LE system and ATL L7-4 linear array on tissue-mimicking phantoms of gelatin and Zerdine containing lesions of enhanced attenuation. We demonstrate imaging of the increased attenuation of the inclusions relative to background, independent of their elastic modulus. These attenuation measurements are complimentary to elastogram and B-mode data and provide an additional source of image contrast for lesion characterization.
","PeriodicalId":521022,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the ...
