Foster (2004) has also provided the Gossip Functions Questionnaire (GFQ) reflecting these four theoretical functions. Yet, this model has not been empirically derived.</p><p><strong>Method and results: </strong>Using a large nationally representative sample we show that this survey captures the two main functions of gossip: 1) Normative Function, and 2) Relationship Function. Finally, we modified the GFQ to capture the two main functions of gossip: the 11-item Revised GFQ.
