These effects are largely mediated by the intrisically photosensitive retinal ganglion cells (ipRGCs) which express the short-wavelength-sensitive photopigment melanopsin. The non-visual effects of light and the underlying sensory and central mechanisms are an active and open area of investigation.</p>","PeriodicalId":520332,"journal":{"name":"Zeitschrift fur praktische Augenheilkunde & augenarztliche Fortbildung : ZPA","volume":"42 ","pages":"431-435"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7617228/pdf/","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"142820542","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
