Park, Bo-Kyoung Shine","doi":"10.46308/kmj.2024.00066","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.46308/kmj.2024.00066","url":null,"abstract":"Subjective life expectancy (SLE) is the predictive value of actual life expectancy. SLE has been notably associated with mortality. The 2006 Korean Longitudinal Study of Aging (KLoSA) representative sample of 10,254 Koreans aged over 45 years to assess the associations between factors of SLE. Descriptive analysis, correlations, and age-adjusted regression analyses were used to examine the relationship between SLE and demographic, socioeconomic, and health factors. We also linked the 2018 KLo-SA death statistics to the 2006 data to evaluate the association between actuarial life expectancy and SLE. We found that chronic illnesses and limitations in activities of daily living affect the life expectancy of individuals. Marriage, gainful employment, and high educational qualifications increase life expectancy. People who exercise expect to live longer, while those who smoke and drink expect to live somewhat shorter lives. Better self-rated health is associated with higher SLE. People who own a house expect to live longer than non-owners, and individuals living in metropolitan cities and urban areas assume a longer life expectancy than those living in rural areas. Participants who died between 2006 and 2018 had previously predicted a lower life expectancy than those who survived until 2018. The results of the study suggest that current health status, health behaviors, socioeconomic status, and actual life expectancy showed significant associations with SLE in the expected directions. These findings imply that we could use SLE as a database of health status, health behavior, and actual life expectancy. This information could help us intervene and improve policies related to SLE.","PeriodicalId":509261,"journal":{"name":"Keimyung Medical Journal","volume":"45 41","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141269978","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Moreover, post-colonoscopy appendicitis is a rare phenomenon, with limited clarity about its pathogenesis. Herein, we discuss the case of 41-year-old female patient, who underwent forceps biopsy polypectomy and cold snare polypectomy during a colonoscopy for a routine check-up. However, 6 h later she experienced episodes of lower abdominal pain and vomiting, subsequently diagnosed as acute appendicitis upon revisit. The patient afterwards underwent laparoscopic appendectomy in the general surgery department. There is a significant lack of knowledge regarding the mechanism of occurrence and predisposing factors associated with post-colonoscopy acute appendicitis; however, if a patient exhibits clear symptoms and a typical course of pain, active exploration for appendicitis can be considered, even shortly after undergoing colonoscopy.","PeriodicalId":509261,"journal":{"name":"Keimyung Medical Journal","volume":"5 11","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140979860","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Online databases including the Tumor Immune Estimation Resource, UALCAN, Gene Expression Profiling Interactive Analysis version 2, OSlihc, and human Protein Atlas were used. The analysis suggested that TMEM115 expression in LIHC was higher compared to normal tissues; further, TMEM115 expression was confirmed to be related with poor prognosis in LIHC. Higher protein expression levels of TMEM115 were observed in LIHC tissues than in normal tissues. Tumor infiltration by immune cells was confirmed to be correlated with the expression of TMEM115. High TMEM115 expression and immune cell infiltration were further related to poor prognosis in LIHC. We also confirmed a correlation between TMEM115 and TP53 mutations. In conclusion, we confirmed that TMEM115 expression is correlated with tumor-infiltrating immune cells and poor prognosis in LIHC and that TMEM115 shows potential as a prognostic biomarker in LIHC.","PeriodicalId":509261,"journal":{"name":"Keimyung Medical Journal","volume":"18 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139211121","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this study, we conducted a study that included the online class environment, learning environment including living environment, and overall life of medical students who are experiencing sudden changes in environment due to COVID-19, to help medical students' academic and school life, and to provide medical services. We want to help improve the quality of education. The subjects of the study are 6 grades from the 1st year of pre-medical school to the 4th year of the medical department attending a medical school in the Daegu area in the 2021 school year, and a total of 450 are studied. In addition, a survey was conducted on students who agreed to the study, and it consisted about the online learning environment and overall living conditions. As a result of the study, there were no gender differences in the online learning environment and overall life amid the COVID-19 pandemic. There were differences between pre-medical and medical students in the online learning environment, and overall life. Due to the sudden COVID-19 pandemic, medical students were faced with an online learning environment that they could not choose. They took care of the physical resources provided by the school on their own and learned the importance of this.","PeriodicalId":509261,"journal":{"name":"Keimyung Medical Journal","volume":"32 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139242325","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
