It addresses the dearth of empirical research in this area and utilises Khan’s (1990) model of engagement as the theoretical framework. The research design employed a cross-sectional descriptive approach, with a sample of 981 employees from the IT, banking, telecommunications and education sectors, selected using quota non-probability sampling. A self-reported questionnaire measured the hypothesised relationships between job design characteristics (JDC), workplace environment (WPE) and employee engagement, analysed using structural equation modelling and AMOS. The findings indicate that both meaningful and challenging work and workplace environment significantly impact employee engagement. However, meaningful and challenging work demonstrates a stronger effect ( = 0.79, p < .000) compared to the workplace environment ( = 0.24, p < .000) in predicting employee engagement. These results contribute to the academic literature by emphasising the importance of integrating meaningful and challenging work and cultivating a positive workplace environment to enhance employee engagement. The study offers practical implications for HR managers, highlighting the need to focus on job design characteristics and improve the workplace environment to foster meaningfulness in work. By doing so, organisations can enhance employee performance and productivity and reduce turnover intentions.","PeriodicalId":507726,"journal":{"name":"IMIB Journal of Innovation and Management","volume":"78 5","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141268453","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An exploration of the stories reveals how leaders can, inadvertently, erode the power and the authority of middle-level managers. An unintended consequence of leadership’s involvement in decisions that are middle mangers’ domain, disempowerment at the middle management level in an organisation arising out of leadership decisions offers an alternate way to explore and understand leadership and middle-management disempowerment in organisations.","PeriodicalId":507726,"journal":{"name":"IMIB Journal of Innovation and Management","volume":"69 15","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141268214","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Of late merger of five subsidiaries of State Bank of India and Bharatiya Mahila Bank Ltd with it in April 2017 has kindled interest in restructuring of unprofitable banks by merging them with a profitable one. In August 2019, the Government of India announced amalgamation of 10 PSBs constituting them into four entities under Punjab National Bank, Canara Bank, Union Bank of India and Indian Bank. Earlier in April 2019, another merger had taken place following the integration of Dena Bank and Vijaya Bank with Bank of Baroda. Studies reveal that while in European countries bank mergers led to improved efficiency, in Asian countries like Indonesia recapitalisation and diversification of banks improved their profitability. In a study of Nigerian banks in Africa it is revealed that post-merger, employee morale diminishes due to stress and anxiety arising out of possible job loss and possible challenges to be met in the new environment. In the present study, the authors have tried to ascertain how profitability, solvency and efficiency of banks improved post-amalgamation in six PSBs. The outcome of the result is a mixed one, while some banks improved their profitability and solvency parameters, for others it is not so perceptible. However, efficiency indicators do not have any significant result for all six of them after amalgamation.","PeriodicalId":507726,"journal":{"name":"IMIB Journal of Innovation and Management","volume":"46 26","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141121872","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It aims to determine whether this correlation is positive, negative or neutral in nature. The research methodology involved an investigation of companies listed on the BSE500 stock index, analysing their ESG ratings for the years 2020 and 2021. The final dataset encompassed 148 companies, resulting in 296 observations for the two years, sourced from the Ace equity database. Panel regression analysis was employed to assess the link between ESG ratings (the independent variable) and ROA (the dependent variable), while also considering financial leverage and firm size as control factors. The results revealed a statistically significant negative linkage between ESG ratings and firm performance, as indicated by ROA, at a 5% significance level. The negative relation between ESG scores and firm performance (ROA) could be attributed to several factors. Organisations that prefer ESG initiatives often incur additional costs in areas like environmental compliance and employee welfare, which can temporarily reduce profitability. Moreover, ESG-conscious firms may make long-term investments that take time to generate returns, impacting short-term ROA. Additionally, stringent ESG standards may deter certain investors or customers, affecting revenue. However, over the long run, robust ESG practices can enhance sustainability and resilience, potentially leading to improved performance and risk mitigation.","PeriodicalId":507726,"journal":{"name":"IMIB Journal of Innovation and Management","volume":"91 25","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141122950","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The use of technology in business can be ascribed to different organisations in the different nations on the parallel lines of time. It includes invention of cash machines and their use by Barclays in England in the early 1960s, the induction of telephone-based modems for order management by Baxter Pharmaceuticals and use of small desktop computing device called Minitel for processing customer orders in France were the other notable developments in the history of coexistence of technology and business. Increasing operations in the business functions have created an urge for the technological innovation in the industry to handle the operations electronically. Figueiredo and Cohen (2019) say that technology has become an indispensable component of every business function by delivering ease in operations and productivity. The end of the 20th century had witnessed the leaping progress in computing in the form of artificial intelligence (AI) performing the tasks that were unimaginable to comprehend a decade back in time. Developments in the technological research and development prove that organisations have started inducting AI into as many fields as possible at a considerable pace. As a part of the shifting technological dynamics in the industry HR function has also transformed digitally. Tools like enterprise applications have forayed intensely into the operations of human resources management (HRM). These enterprise resource planning (ERP) tools remain to primarily serve the integration of HRM to the other functions. However, enterprise tools could not serve the purpose of supporting decisiveness in the areas of HR planning, workforce design and performance management at large. However, Tuck (2019) argues that AI is assuming increased responsibilities in the different sections of the society and business including the HRM function. At present, the amount of knowledge on the status quo of the role of AI in the HRM functions is scarcely available. Literature related to this disruptive technology in the HR function is still at the nascent stage. This study will examine the role of AI as a key component in the HRM function, which is regarded to be highly human-driven.","PeriodicalId":507726,"journal":{"name":"IMIB Journal of Innovation and Management","volume":"13 21","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141119774","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

All these factors make NER a potential BPO destination, further enhanced by different government (central/states) policy initiatives. However, the industry in the regions exhibited an almost flat growth curve over the years, and thus there is a need for understanding the reasons behind the failure of the undertaken policies. This study is largely based on qualitative research on the large information technology and business process management (IT-BPM) industry of India in general and (still) nascent BPO industry of NER in particular. The authors’ understanding and findings are inferred from review of policy documents, numerous data sources and discussions, focus group interviews with national BPO experts, and local BPO entrepreneurs of the region. The impact of coronavirus disease-2019 on the business process management (BPM) industry and the opportunities arising from it, particularly for this region has also been examined. The study presents a set of factors paralysing the industry in NER, and outlines some affirmative measures to rectify the failures. This analysis, though specific to the NER, highlights the issues involved in BPO operations which can be generalised and provide guidelines to other destinations.","PeriodicalId":507726,"journal":{"name":"IMIB Journal of Innovation and Management","volume":"40 16","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141122149","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Business incubator is a critical instrument for promoting entrepreneurial ecosystems and the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Business incubation is a process that nurtures and promotes the growth of start-ups and early-stage companies. The aim of this article was to examine the existing literature on business incubators and SMEs in order to identify and highlight major as well as relevant themes and trends that can influence future research. The Scopus database was used to extract the data file. To develop network structures biblioshiny package of RStudio and VOSviewer was used. The results from the literature survey show some key observations highlight business incubators’ changing nature, challenges, and impact on economic and entrepreneurship development. In addition, SMEs can be better served if incubation programmes are tailored to specific industries or technologies, for this, governments should encourage the establishment of specialised incubation centres.","PeriodicalId":507726,"journal":{"name":"IMIB Journal of Innovation and Management","volume":"44 4","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141121961","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The word of mouth spread by them through online mode helps the marketers in understanding the consumer behaviour. Marketers rely on the information provided by the consumers in the form of online reviews or comments. The purpose of this article is to analyse the online reviews using Nvivo and to validate the scale used for measuring electronic word of mouth. The data were collected from 420 online consumers from Jammu city, who consider online reviews before purchasing. Both qualitative and quantitative techniques, such as NVivo and Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA), were used. The research showed that the secondary data collected from Amazon India website in the form of online reviews matched the scale that was considered by the researchers from extant literature. The study thus helped in validating the scale for measuring electronic word of mouth communication. This research is of its kind that has been done in India. The present study may be used by the marketers for measuring the electronic word of mouth communication that would further help them in understanding consumer behaviour and, ultimately, knowing about the present and future needs of online consumers.","PeriodicalId":507726,"journal":{"name":"IMIB Journal of Innovation and Management","volume":"6 3","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139279797","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
