This issue is particularly significant concerning the welding of AISI 304 steels, commonly used in the food industry. Although this problem can be overcome with different methods, there are some restrictions. A novel technique for welding AISI 304 steel pipes is introduced to reduce weld decay and improve the mechanical properties. The use of this technique, which includes faster cooling after welding, significantly minimizes the time of precipitation of chromium carbide. Temperature measurements and microstructural analyses monitor precipitation and the impact of the technique on the mechanical characteristics of AISI 304 steel pipes was assessed through hardness and hoop tensile tests. There was a 6% increase in hardness values observed in the HAZ region. Furthermore, a 16.7% increase in maximum load and a 127.4% increase in elongation. The reduction in chromium carbide precipitation observed in the microstructural analysis was confirmed through the double loop electropotentiokinetic reactivation (DLEPR) test, specifically for assessing intergranular corrosion. With the novel method, there was a 25% increase in corrosion resistance in the HAZ and a 40% increase in the weld zone.","PeriodicalId":504868,"journal":{"name":"Emerging Materials Research","volume":"68 9","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141231263","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The composite PCM was formulated using sodium sulphate decahydrate (SSD) as the primary phase change material, Borax as a nucleating agent, ammonium chloride (NH4Cl) as a temperature control additive, sodium hexametaphosphate (SHMP) as a crystal modifier, and carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) as a thickening agent. The D-optimal mixture design was employed to optimize the composition, and this resulted in the identification of an optimal formulation characterized by the most desirable properties. The thermal properties were evaluated using differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) and revealed a phase change temperature of 15.40°C. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis confirmed the crystalline nature of the composite PCM. After 100 cooling and heating cycles, the crystallization temperature was 9.50°C, the melting temperature was 15.50°C, and the supercooling degree was 0.70°C. The enthalpy values showed an 11.22% decrease, indicating reliable thermal performance. The study concluded that the optimal formulation (SBNSC) exhibits commendable thermophysical properties, demonstrating its potential for effective application in phase change cold storage air conditioning system.","PeriodicalId":504868,"journal":{"name":"Emerging Materials Research","volume":"2 9","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141230284","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Morphologies of Bi2O3/PEG photocatalysts with different addition amount of PEG were prepared by solvothermal method. The phase, morphology, optical absorption property, elemental composition, and specific surface area of Bi2O3/PEG were characterized. The results indicated that all Bi2O3 with different additions (Bi2O3/PEG-mx) were pure β-Bi2O3 phases, and they consisted of larger plate-like and smaller particle-like particles. Photocatalytic activity enhancement was attributed to a larger specific surface area when PEG mass was less than 10 g. However, enhanced photocatalytic activity was ascribed to the pores on the plate-like β-Bi2O3 surface beneficial for light to pass through and the light was efficiently utilized when PEG mass was 12 g. Bi2O3/PEG had the optimal photocatalytic activity when the addition mass of PEG was 12 g, and the photocatalytic degradation rate of bisphenol A was above 90% after 180 min with a dosage of 0.6 g·L−1 under visible light irradiation. Meanwhile, the prepared Bi2O3/PEG-ty with solvothermal temperature below 140°C showed poor photocatalytic activity and that above 160°C exhibited high photocatalytic activity. Bi2O3/PEG photocatalyst could effectively mineralize more than 80% of bisphenol A into inorganic molecules and water under the co-oxidation of superoxide radical (O2 −) and hole (h+). This is the first detailed research on the regulation and modification of β-Bi2O3 by PEG, which may provide new insight into the photocatalytic technology.","PeriodicalId":504868,"journal":{"name":"Emerging Materials Research","volume":"17 8","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141229963","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The morphology changes of the MOF-199 under different preparation conditions and its application in the catalytic thermal decomposition of hexahydro-1,3,5-trinitro-s-triazine (RDX) was studied. The morphological changes of MOF-199 were compared by scanning electron microscope (SEM), the crystal structures of MOF-199 were analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD), and the effects of MOF-199 with different morphological characteristics on the thermal decomposition behavior of RDX were studied by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The results show that MOF-199 with different morphologies can effectively adjust the thermal decomposition process of RDX and reduce the decomposition peak temperature of RDX, and the catalytic effect of MOF-199 is different due to different crystal surfaces exposed. Among them, (110) is a highly active crystal plane with high catalytic activity. In addition to the crystal plane structure, the defects on the surface of MOF-199 will also affect its catalytic performance. This study provides some theoretical support for the catalytic mechanism of MOFs in the thermal decomposition of nitro compounds.","PeriodicalId":504868,"journal":{"name":"Emerging Materials Research","volume":" 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140091480","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
