This insect became the most destructive pest for date palms. All research seeks out safe methods for controlling this pest. This study aims to use eco-friendly and safer methods to manage R.P.W. However, the effect of Formaldehyde needs more research. The phrase \"formalin\" refers to the gas formic aldehyde, CH 2 O, which is a 40% solution of Formaldehyde in water. The results showed that concentration (40%) had a significant impact on larvae in their second instar and newly hatched red palm weevil among all concentrations after exposure to a toxic zone for ten days. The results revealed that there was an increase in larvae mortality by increasing the duration of exposure to Formalin, and this may depend on the accumulation of Formalin on target organs. Data reported that Formalin is effective for the larvae. Therefore, Formalin could interrupt the life cycle of red palm weevil and might be suitable for integrated pest management of this pest as a protective or curative agent. In terms of LC 50 and LC 90, the relative toxicity of the tested concentrations at the LC 50 and LC 90 levels showed that the toxicity of Formalin on newly hatching was the most effective among other larvae of red palm weevil. Regarding LT 50 and LT 90 values, formalin application demonstrated great activity against R. ferruginous , and the needed time causing 50 and 95% mortality (LT 50 and LT 90 ) decreased when the formalin concentration increased. Also, exposure of red palm weevil to ascending concentrations of Formalin showed a significant effect among all concentrations (p˃0.05) of Formalin (40, 20, 10, 5 and 2.5 %) when used on larvae of the fourth instar. In comparison to control, the total lipids and total carbs dropped. As for total lipid and total carbohydrate content, it showed a detectable decrease in treated larvae, while other biochemical components (total protein) showed a slight or no decrease. In the field application of (Formalin) on palm trees for R. ferrugineus control, the results concluded that the infection began to stop seven days after treatment of formalin concentrations (40% and 20%). Also, the treated date palm trees manifested complete recovery after 30 days of the treatment.","PeriodicalId":504665,"journal":{"name":"Aswan University Journal of Environmental Studies","volume":"37 9","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140398573","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study examined the water qualities and health risk indices of the groundwater samples from selected areas of Ijebu-North Local Government Area of Ogun State, Nigeria. The samples were evaluated for physico-chemical, total metal load, microbial load, targeted health hazard quotient (HQ), health hazard indices (HI), water quality indices (WQI), heavy metal evaluation indices (HMEI), heavy metal toxicity indices (HMTI), heavy metal pollution indices (HMPI) and the environmental water quality index (EWQI) parameters. The results obtained indicate variations in the parameters assessed which were mainly within the World Health Organization recommended limits for drinking water. The hardness, nitrate, the total coliform count and confirmatory fecal coliform counts, iron and cadmium contents were higher than recommended limits. Using the WQI ratings, 25% of the groundwater samples were ‘excellent’ and ‘suitable’ for drinking while 75% were unsuitable for drinking. HEI of the groundwater varied from ‘medium’ to ‘high’ class while HMPI varied from low to medium and HMTI was in a high class for all the water samples. EWQI values placed Awa and Ijebu Igbo borehole water samples as the best water samples and Oru well water as the worst water sample. Cluster analyses show that Awa and Ijebu Igbo boreholes clustered together and have similar qualities distinct from other locations. Proper treatment of the water samples before use as they can pose health hazards is recommended.","PeriodicalId":504665,"journal":{"name":"Aswan University Journal of Environmental Studies","volume":"138 6","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140404765","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

But it is unfortunate that it is seasonal and contains a high percentage of moisture, which hinders the storage process. This leads researchers around the world to innovate and develop processes that will preserve TF in a safe way for safe use throughout the year and facilitate the preservation and processing. Therefore, the current study focused on studying the different engineering factors through which the use of solar energy (SE) in drying TF can be maximized. The TF were dried using a solar dryer (SD) attached to a fixed solar collector (FSC) and another SD attached to a solar collector integrated with an automatic sun tracking system (ASCT). The field experiments were done at three drying air velocities of 1, 1.5, and 2 m/s and three slice thicknesses (ST) of 4, 6, and 8 mm. The results showed that the ASCT reaches a peak air temperature of 65°C, while the FSC reaches a peak air temperature of 55°C. This 10°C difference in air temperature can have a significant impact on drying times, which led to an increase in the thermal efficiency of the SC equipped with an ASCT by about 17% compared to the traditional FSC. The maximum efficiency of the PV system was about 17% at 8.0 a.m. In addition, the ASCT samples dry more quickly than the FSC samples at all AV. On SD merged with ASCT, the TF samples dried for 5– 8 hours reached EMC; whereas, on SD merged with FSC, the TF samples dried for 6–10 hours reached EMC. This indicates that the time needed to dry TF slices was reduced by 20% to 25% when the developed ASCT was used.","PeriodicalId":504665,"journal":{"name":"Aswan University Journal of Environmental Studies","volume":"348 11","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140402237","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Results showed that LFH is an efficient inhibitor for copper corrosion, and the inhibition efficiency percent (η%) reached 88.4 % at an optimum concentration (600 ppm) according to EIS measurements. The data of WL method revealed that the inhibition efficiency (η%) raised and the corrosion rate (k corr ) decreased with the concentration of LFH and vice versa with the temperature. It was discovered that the adsorption of the LFH on the Cu surface obeyed Langmuir adsorption isotherm. The Tafel curves demonstrated that this expired behaved as a mixed-type inhibitor. The LHF prevented corrosion by adhering to the metal surface, which was demonstrated by Scanning Electron Microscopy Conducted with Energy Dispersive X-ray (SEM-EDX), Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR).","PeriodicalId":504665,"journal":{"name":"Aswan University Journal of Environmental Studies","volume":"15 2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140404063","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although effective, this method is usually costly, difficult to access deposits in crevices, and risks causing equipment damage. Chemical cleaning, on the other hand, is a more effective, trustworthy, and time-efficient alternative for eliminating scale. A solution of caustic soda (10-25%) is the most used reagent in Egypt to clean the evaporative tubes used in sugar processes. The goal of this study was to provide a novel green solution that could be utilized in sugar factories to remove scale from evaporative bodies and reduce the environmental impact of NaOH. Consequently, glutamic acid and sodium gluconate were both explored as organic acids for scales dissolution. In all types of evaporator bodies, glutamic acid has a significantly better removal efficacy of up to 83%, while sodium gluconate gave a removal rate of up to 40%. According to EDX and XRD analysis, the main scales content in the sugar factory was calcium sulphate due to the sulphitation method utilized in the clarification operations. The fourth evaporator body is the most difficult because to the high quantity of Si contained in the scale structure. The findings of this study will help the industry sector choose precise thinning techniques for the use of chemical chelating agents for scale removal.","PeriodicalId":504665,"journal":{"name":"Aswan University Journal of Environmental Studies","volume":"120 S7","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140407041","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
