IN THE CENTRAL HIGHLANDS, VIETNAM, FOR DEVELOPING HIGH-VALUE PRODUCTS IN THE FOOD INDUSTRY","authors":"Thi Thang Long Nguyen, Vu Mai Quynh Luong","doi":"10.37569/dalatuniversity.14.1.1278(2024)","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.37569/dalatuniversity.14.1.1278(2024)","url":null,"abstract":"This article focuses on the potential use of yellow camellias in the food technology industry by analyzing and synthesizing information from previous publications. Many rare species of the genus Camellia have been discovered recently in the Central Highlands of Vietnam, including 10 new species discovered in Lam Dong Province between 2012 and 2016. These 10 species account for 55.55% of the 18 species growing naturally in the Central Highlands and demonstrate the diversity of Camellia in the region. The flowers range from light yellow to orange to deep yellow in color. The survival rate of cuttings is 72.24%–83.33%, and the rooting rate when seeds are sown approaches 100%. Yellow camellias do not contain caffeine. The main active ingredient is polyphenol, with a content of 5.22%–30.11% (mg GAE/100 g DW). Camellia extract does not cause acute toxicity and has a blood sugar-lowering effect. Vietnam has much experience growing green tea; the total green tea growing area is 131,200 hectares. The average annual yield is 6.90 tons of fresh leaves per hectare, and the current export market to 60 countries is the basis for expanding the yellow camellia growing area. The Central Highlands has great potential as a stable source of raw materials to create fermented beverages, tea powder, tea oil, and colorants.","PeriodicalId":503959,"journal":{"name":"Dalat University Journal of Science","volume":"18 21","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140361130","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study used an exploratory research design to explore the teaching strategies and challenges of ten swimming and aquatic course instructors at Bicol University through survey interviews and curriculum analysis. The study revealed that the instructors used various teaching approaches in the course, depending on the topic. Major challenges were poor facilities, overcrowded pools, and a lack of professional development. A course manual covering the eight topics of the course was developed. The manual was evaluated and scored as acceptable for use in teaching the course. It was concluded that the techniques for implementing theory-based learning and the difficulties that educators face may serve as the foundation for the development of successful teaching resources, such as books and manuals. Strong institutional support for providing adequate facilities and professional development for instructors is recommended. Use of the manual developed here is encouraged to evaluate its effectiveness.","PeriodicalId":503959,"journal":{"name":"Dalat University Journal of Science","volume":"44 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140077729","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Survey data were collected with a two-part questionnaire to construct a demographic profile of the respondents and assess the level of DRRM implementation by the schools in four thematic areas: disaster prevention and mitigation, disaster preparedness, disaster response, and disaster rehabilitation and recovery. Eighty-one teachers from five high schools participated in the survey. The participants were diverse in terms of age, sex, length of service, field of specialization, and level of training on DRRM. The level of DRRM implementation was high in all four thematic areas. Means and standard deviations were 3.06 ± 0.49 for disaster prevention and mitigation, 2.99 ± 0.51 for disaster preparedness, 2.99 ± 0.59 for disaster response, and 2.98 ± 0.49 for disaster rehabilitation and recovery. Overall, the four thematic areas were carefully observed and implemented by the surveyed schools during the pandemic. The schools adhered to the standards prescribed by the national DRRM council and reinforced by order of the Philippine Department of Education. It is highly recommended that schools maximize their implementation in these four areas and create ways to enhance their ability to deal with disasters.","PeriodicalId":503959,"journal":{"name":"Dalat University Journal of Science","volume":"14 6","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140471669","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This may be because Changi International Airport in Singapore and Incheon International Airport in Korea are not only functional but also attractions. Such airports are beneficial during national crises, such as pandemics and economic downturns, because they serve as tourist attractions. This study examines the services offered by these two airports to identify factors that could help Vietnamese airports enhance their services. The results indicate that Vietnamese airports should provide cultural amenities consistently across all terminals. However, as Changi and Incheon International Airports are larger than Vietnam’s airports, future studies should focus on smaller airports, such as Tan Son Nhat Airport, to investigate methods to attract tourists.","PeriodicalId":503959,"journal":{"name":"Dalat University Journal of Science","volume":"7 2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140489476","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
