One type of these crafts is called semi-submersible naval ship, which utilizes superior properties of a submarine and a surface ship. This paper presents general characteristic design features of these type of ships. Additionally, a design prioritization study based on a Fast-Decision survey was carried to determine the importance of different design features of such ships. Survey participants were chosen from experienced naval officers who served the Navy. The responses are analyzed and presented with bar charts which shows the order of importance of the different design parameters. Results reveals that the most important operational tasks for a semi-submersible naval ship are naval special operations capability and ability to infiltrate, dodge and operate in hostile waters while the most important functional features are high maneuverability in surface operations and low acoustic detectability in underwater operations. In addition, it appears that the size of the control room and engine room is more important than the ship's ability to be transported by another vehicle. The authors are intended to make conceptual designs for semi-submersible naval ships and investigate their hydrodynamic features in future studies.","PeriodicalId":502729,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Naval Sciences and Engineering","volume":"38 10","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140461467","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this study, a dual-band waveguide polarizer used in satellite communications is presented. The waveguide polarizer is designed using iris structures on a square waveguide. The purpose of the polarizer is to transmit the ±45° tilted linearly polarized signal at its input to the output as a right-hand or left-hand circularly polarized wave, and vice versa. At the input of the polarizer, a transition is designed between the WR42 waveguide and the square waveguide. At the output stage, a transition from square waveguide to circular waveguide is designed. In this paper, the design steps of both the polarizer and the transition sections, the optimization parameters, and simulation results are presented in full detail. The simulations are performed with a commercial electromagnetic simulation software, CST Studio Suite. The design operates within the Ka-band, specifically at 17.2 – 21.2 GHz and 27.5 – 31 GHz frequency bands. The insertion loss of the iris polarizer is 23 dB, and the phase difference is less than 15° around 90° for both bands.","PeriodicalId":502729,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Naval Sciences and Engineering","volume":"14 6","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139163000","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
