Early physical rehabilitation programs have been shown to effectively address issues such as swallowing difficulties and motor function impairment in the neck and shoulders, thereby improving the overall quality of life for patients. This study aimed to assess the impact of cranial base release (CBR) in conjunction with swallowing exercises on the post-surgery recovery of patients undergoing total thyroidectomy. A 29-year-old male patient presented with swelling on the left side of the neck, along with pain during neck movements, speech difficulties, and swallowing issues. The patient's neck range of motion, swallowing impairment score, and neck pain and disability scale were measured both before and after treatment. The patient underwent a six-week rehabilitation program consisting of CBR, swallowing exercises, and conventional physiotherapy sessions twice daily. The combined approach of CBR and swallowing exercises resulted in significant improvements in neck range of motion, swallowing impairment score, and neck pain and disability scale for patients following total thyroidectomy. This study highlights the beneficial effects of integrating CBR with swallowing exercises in the rehabilitation of post-operative total thyroidectomy patient, offering promising outcomes for their recovery.","PeriodicalId":496058,"journal":{"name":"Interdisciplinary Rehabilitation / Rehabilitacion Interdisciplinaria","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141688057","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Este artículo presenta una revisión de alcance de la relación entre TEA y migración, que se enfoca en factores culturales, étnicos y experiencias migratorias. Método: Se empleó un método de revisión de alcance, analizando los artículos identificados en categorías como influencias culturales, barreras, diagnóstico, intervención temprana, perspectivas de los padres y el estigma asociado al autismo. Resultado: Se resalta la importancia de abordar la interacción de factores culturales, sistémicos e individuales para mejorar el apoyo y los resultados en personas y familias con un diagnóstico de TEA en comunidades de migrantes. Conclusión: La evidencia sugiere la existencia de barreras comunes en los trastornos neurodesarrollo y el TEA en poblaciones que migrantes, incluyendo factores estructurales, socioeconómicos, sociales y culturales, como la falta de seguros médicos, la fragmentación de servicios, el apoyo social insuficiente y la carencia de recursos culturalmente apropiados.","PeriodicalId":496058,"journal":{"name":"Interdisciplinary Rehabilitation / Rehabilitacion Interdisciplinaria","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140452707","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Recently, magnetic fields have gained significant interest in various biological contexts, showing promise in preserving neurons and reversing behavioral and morphological changes in stroke models. This study explores the potential synergy between static magnetic field and nAChR agonist administration in safeguarding motor behavior in ischemic gerbils. Objective: To determine whether the combined use of a static magnetic field and an agonist for nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChR) can preserve motor behavior in ischemic gerbils.Methods: In this experimental study, 72 Mongolian gerbils were randomly allocated into nine groups (n=8): S, SISM, SINSM, ISM, INP, ISP, INSM, INNP, INSP, distributed according to surgical procedure and treatment. The animals were trained and evaluated on the Rotarod (RR) to assess motor performance.Results: The main finding was the preservation of motor behavior in the Sham Ischemia and Nicotine and Sham Magnetic Stimulation (SINSM) and Ischemia and Nicotine and South Pole Magnetic Field (INSP) groups, as evidenced by the results of the RR test.Conclusions: The findings are consistent with previous literature and provide insight into the mechanism of potentiation, as results showed that adding a nAChR agonist to the magnetic field preserved motor performance in the RR test of ischemic animals.","PeriodicalId":496058,"journal":{"name":"Interdisciplinary Rehabilitation / Rehabilitacion Interdisciplinaria","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140458741","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

{"title":"Terapéutica farmacológica actual para artritis reumatoide, factores para su eficacia y complicaciones asociadas: revisión sistemática","authors":"Jonathan Rocha","doi":"10.56294/ri202476","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.56294/ri202476","url":null,"abstract":"La artritis reumatoide (AR) es una enfermedad inflamatoria crónica, autoinmune y sistémica que afecta principalmente las articulaciones diartrodiales. Su prevalencia global es de 0.5-1% en adultos, incrementándose hasta 5% en mujeres mayores de 55 años. La AR reduce la calidad de vida y la esperanza de vida entre 3-10 años, principalmente por enfermedades cardiovasculares asociadas. El tratamiento actual se basa en iniciar terapia modificadora de la enfermedad de forma temprana con el objetivo de suprimir la inflamación, inducir remisión, prevenir el daño articular y mejorar la funcionalidad. Los medicamentos antirreumáticos incluyen antiinflamatorios no esteroideos, glucocorticoides, inmunosupresores no biológicos como el metotrexato, e inmunomoduladores biológicos anti-TNF o anti-interleucinas, que han demostrado alta efectividad clínica. Sin embargo, existe variabilidad individual en la respuesta terapéutica, efectos adversos y pérdida de eficacia en el tiempo. El presente estudio realizó una revisión sistemática de la literatura siguiendo la metodología PRISMA. La búsqueda se llevó a cabo en PubMed, Scopus y Web of Science. Se utilizaron términos MESH y keywords relacionados con artritis reumatoide, tratamientos, efectividad y factores pronósticos. Se incluyeron estudios publicados entre 2015-2022, seleccionando finalmente 30 artículos que cumplieron criterios de elegibilidad. El objetivo de esta revisión fue recopilar y sintetizar la evidencia disponible sobre los medicamentos y terapias utilizados actualmente para la artritis reumatoide, los factores asociados al éxito terapéutico y las complicaciones o efectos adversos más frecuentemente reportados. Los resultados permiten mejorar las estrategias de tratamiento, considerando una aproximación personalizada según las necesidades de cada paciente.","PeriodicalId":496058,"journal":{"name":"Interdisciplinary Rehabilitation / Rehabilitacion Interdisciplinaria","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139621357","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
