Metal oxide gas sensors, which offer distinctive advantages such as high gas response, reversible reaction, and cost-effectiveness, represent valuable tools for monitoring food freshness to avoid rotten meat, spoiled fish, and over-ripened fruit. This paper reviews the recent developments in metal oxide gas sensors for highly sensitive and selective detection of food freshness marker gases, such as hydrogen sulfide, ammonia, trimethylamine, and ethylene. Key approaches include the use of thermal activation, the utilization of chemical affinity between analyte gases and sensing materials, and bilayer structures with catalytic overlayers. Overall, the development of such advanced gas sensors has the potential to greatly improve the efficiency and accuracy of food freshness monitoring, making it more accessible and convenient for food producers and consumers.","PeriodicalId":495698,"journal":{"name":"세라미스트","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135085925","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These hard metals consist of hard phases (transitional metal carbides) and tough phases (metallic phases), though microstructural variables such as grain size, mean free path, and coherency in interfaces between the phases will also affect the properties of the hard metals. Accordingly, the mechanical properties of hard metals can be improved by strengthening both phases, or by adjusting various other factors that affect the microstructure and mechanical properties of the hard metals. In this paper we review the factors that have been identified as controlling the microstructure and associated properties, as well as the diverse research concerning the improvement of hard metals. We ultimately conclude that fine grains of solid-solution strengthened carbides with hard metallic phases are necessary for producing hard metals with superior mechanical properties, as is the formation of a coherent interfacial structure, as the interfacial area is relatively weaker than the grain inside.","PeriodicalId":495698,"journal":{"name":"세라미스트","volume":"68 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135085924","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In addition, the direct oxidation of small organics can be utilized for electrochemical hydrogen production or fuel cell. This study aimed to provide database for various anode catalysts that can degrade organic molecules such as urea, methanol, ethanol, glucose, ammonia, formic acid, acetic acid, oxalic acid in various pH conditions. Pt, Ni, Cu anodes were employed, and the target molecule concentration was 0.3 M. The activity was analyzed by the peak current densities of cyclic voltammetry. The Cu showed activity in the reaction of decomposing glucose and ammonia at pH 14. The Ni was active in ammonia degradation at pH 7, and the Pt was active in oxalic acid oxidation at pH 0. Relevant mechanisms were proposed for these reactions. We suggest Cu-Ni composites for toilet wastewater treatment and Pt for handling anaerobic digestor effluent.","PeriodicalId":495698,"journal":{"name":"세라미스트","volume":"77 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135085931","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to this unique feature, TCO is utilized in various applications such as flat panel displays, solar cells, light emitting diodes, and smart windows. At present, Sn-doped In<sub>2</sub>O<sub>3</sub> (ITO) is the most widely used in the TCO market because of the superior materials properties. However, due to the demand for higher conductivity, instability of indium supply and high price, research to find new TCO materials has been continuously conducted. In this study, to develop a new TCO based on ZnO, we investigate the thermal stability of the transition metal dopants Sc and V and their effect on the band structure of ZnO using first-principles calculations. Our results show that Sc and V are efficient donors that can generate one free electron by substituting Zn when doped into ZnO. Furthermore, by analyzing the band structure of the doped system and calculating the electron effective mass, we show that Sc and V doping can be an important strategy to develop ZnO-based high-performance TCOs.","PeriodicalId":495698,"journal":{"name":"세라미스트","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135085927","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Unlike lithium-ion batteries, AIBs can be designed using a variety of ions, and the operating mechanism of ion intercalation in actual battery systems has not been fully clarified. Among them, the AIB based on tetrachloroaluminate(AlCl<sub>4</sub><sup>−</sup>) ion has the fastest charging and discharging speed and more than 8,000 cycles of cycle stability. However, due to the large size of the AlCl<sub>4</sub><sup>−</sup> ion (∼ 5.28 Å), there has been controversy over its actual intercalation/deintercalation behavior and it is difficult to explain the characteristics of AIBs with very fast ion exchange behavior and excellent cycle stability. Theoretical studies using first-principles calculations have reported that the most stable structure when AlCl<sub>4</sub><sup>−</sup> ion is inserted into graphite is that the ion intercalation gallery of graphite should be extended to∼9 Å. However, this is in contradiction with the experimental observation results (∼5.7 Å). In this paper, we solved this discrepancy between theory and experiment, and proposed a first-principles calculation-based computational simulation model that considers more realistic ion intercalation conditions. We found that the operating mechanism of AlCl<sub>4</sub><sup>−</sup> ion intercalation can vary depending on the range of expansion of the out-of-plane lattice constant of the graphite structure. In other words, when the distance between the ion insertion galleries is physically constrained and a deformation force exists, AlCl<sub>4</sub><sup>−</sup> ion is stabilized to have a flat planar shape, which is in good agreement with the experimental observation results. We also applied the computational simulation model that considers this behavior to explain the AlCl<sub>4</sub><sup>−</sup> ion intercalation mechanism in 2D van der Waals electrode materials with confined out-of-plane lattice lengths, and predicted the battery performance of aluminum-ion battery electrodes in hetero-structures where different 2D materials form interfaces.","PeriodicalId":495698,"journal":{"name":"세라미스트","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135085792","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
