This case report presents a unique instance of photic retinopathy resulting from accidental exposure to alexandrite laser. Case presentation: A twenty-year-old female with no prior medical history experienced immediate vision loss in her left eye after unintentional self-exposure to an Alexandrite laser. Diagnostic imaging revealed a yellowish macular spot surrounded by a pigment halo on colored fundus photography, disrupted retinal layers on Heidelberg Spectralis Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), and occult choroidal neovascularization on Optical Coherence Tomography-Angiography (OCT-A), indicating significant macular damage. Various treatment strategies were employed to prevent further progression and improve vision. Conclusion: This paper highlights a rare side effect of Alexandrite laser exposure detected using OCT-A. Early diagnosis and management, including intravitreal aflibercept injection, were crucial in achieving favorable visual outcomes. The implementation of specific protective measures is essential for preventing photic retinopathy.","PeriodicalId":495637,"journal":{"name":"Egyptian Journal of Ophthalmology, (Mansoura Ophthalmic Center)","volume":"7 5","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141404109","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Patients and Methods : This was a cross-sectional observational analytical study conducted on a total of 195 eyes included 95 eyes of 55 patients with POAG and 100 healthy control (HC) eyes of 50 subjects. The glaucomatous eyes were divided into three groups (mild, moderate and sever). Most of studied cases were mild (41.1%), while moderate and sever degrees were recorded in (26.3%) and (32.6%) of cases respectively. Contrast Sensitivity Assessment was done by The Pelli Robson Test and Oculus Mesotest II. Results : The mean age of patients with POAG was (57.89±8.49) years, while in the control group it was (55.59±10.37) years. There were statistically significant differences between the two groups as regards BCVA and IOP. POAG groups were associated with highly significant increase in Cup/disc ratio (CDR) and highly significant decrease in the mean deviation compared to control group. There was a statistically significant decrease in contrast sensitivity and highly statistically significant decrease in RNFL thickness in patients’ group in comparison with control group. There were highly statistically significant positive correlations between contrast sensitivity assessment and all RNFL parameters. Conclusion: Contrast sensitivity has been correlated with RNFL thickness in POAG patients. Contrast sensitivity and RNFL thickness play an important role in detection of POAG.","PeriodicalId":495637,"journal":{"name":"Egyptian Journal of Ophthalmology, (Mansoura Ophthalmic Center)","volume":"35 15","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141410664","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This research aimed to assess the choroidal alterations in a substantial cohort of diabetic patients, at various phases, using swept source optical coherence tomography (OCT) and optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA). METHODS. Between February 2022 and February 2023, patients with type II diabetes who had not yet started ocular treatment were included in the study at Tanta University Hospitals. Fundus Fluorescein angiography (FFA) was used to grade the stage of diabetic retinopathy (DR). We used the swept source OCT to get high-definition scans of the retina and choroid. We also got thickness maps of the choroid (CT) and volume maps of the choroid (CV). We used OCTA to find the vascular density index (VDI) at the retinal and choroidal levels. We used multivariate linear regression models to investigate how severe DR was linked to Choroidal thickness and volume, as well as VDI. Patients and methods: This was a retrospective analytic study conducted on patients attended to Mansoura Ophthalmic Center, Mansoura University, Egypt within the period from September 2017 to September 2021 and undergone keratoplasty in Mansoura ophthalmic center including (PKP, DALK and DMEK). Data including medical and family history taking and complete personal history. Pre-operative full ophthalmic data including visual acuity assessment, anterior segment examination, Fundus examination. Post-operative ophthalmological examination within the first follow up including uncorrected and Best-corrected distance visual acuity, slit-lamp examination, fundus examination if possible. Results: The current study was conducted on 190 eyes from 190 cases who had undergone keratoplasty within a period from September 2017 to September 2021. Their mean age was 35.2 years, ranging from 10 to76 years. They were 78 males (41.1%) and 112 females (58.9%). Keratoconus was the most common indication for keratoplasty (60.0%) followed by Corneal opacity after mechanical trauma in 25 eyes (13.2%). PKP was the most common procedure in our study done for 115 eyes (60.50%) followed by DALK done in 70 eyes (36.8%). Conclusion: Keratoconus was the most common indication for keratoplasty. PKP was the most prevalent technique in patients undergoing corneal transplantation performed in MOC. DALK was the first choice for keratoplasty in ectatic corneal diseases such as keratoconus with healthy endothelium, while PKP was the second surgical treatment. Corneal opacity which caused by mechanical trauma, chemical injury or post infectious keratitis was the second indication for keratoplasty, in which PKP was the technique for keratoplasty or triple procedure in cases with traumatic cataract. DMEK was the preferred technique in eyes with post-operative corneal decompensation. PKP was the choice in eyes with graft rejection, corneal stromal dystrophy and post LASIK ectasia.","PeriodicalId":495637,"journal":{"name":"Egyptian Journal of Ophthalmology, (Mansoura Ophthalmic Center)","volume":"142 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141413883","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
