Examining traditional beliefs, societal norms, and the impact of stigma, the study addresses the challenges within the cultural context. Critiquing Western diagnostic criteria and exploring alternative explanatory models rooted in indigenous perspectives highlight the need for a culturally informed diagnostic approach. Additionally, the paper discusses the limited availability of mental health services, cultural barriers to seeking professional help, and the significance of cultural competence in ADHD diagnosis. Collaborative efforts with traditional healers and community leaders are emphasized. Ultimately, the study aims to contribute to a more inclusive and culturally sensitive approach to ADHD diagnosis in Nigeria.","PeriodicalId":494635,"journal":{"name":"Studies in Psychological Science","volume":"4 12","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140083280","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Utilizing a mixed-methods approach, our study amalgamates quantitative data from structured surveys with qualitative insights derived from in-depth interviews to unravel the nuanced landscape of self-identity challenges. The interplay of cultural heritage, political influences, and economic disparities emerges as central themes shaping group dynamics in response to identity challenges. Our findings not only contribute to the existing literature on identity but also provide a holistic perspective that informs policies and interventions fostering inclusivity and resilience. As we navigate the complexities of identity within the Canadian socio-cultural milieu, this research serves as a foundation for future exploration into the evolving dynamics of identity crisis and group responses.","PeriodicalId":494635,"journal":{"name":"Studies in Psychological Science","volume":"22 17","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140084748","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Utilizing a mixed-methods approach, the study explores individual differences in emotional memory scores across three distinct social groups (Social Group A, Social Group B, and Social Group C). The findings reveal significant variations in emotional memory, with Social Group B exhibiting consistently higher mean scores. These variations underscore the intricate interplay between group identity and the encoding of emotionally charged events. The study contributes to the fields of psychology and sociology by emphasizing the importance of examining individual differences within social groups, particularly through the lens of emotional memory. Practical implications extend to mental health interventions, community outreach, and policy development, emphasizing the need for tailored strategies that acknowledge and address the diverse emotional needs of different social groups.","PeriodicalId":494635,"journal":{"name":"Studies in Psychological Science","volume":"107 10","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140088500","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Anchoring bias refers to the tendency for individuals to rely too heavily on an initial anchor when making judgments or decisions, even if the anchor is arbitrary or irrelevant. The article defines anchoring bias, discusses its effects on investment decisions, pricing and valuation decisions, and risk assessment and management. Strategies for recognizing and reducing the impact of anchoring bias are explored, including awareness and reflection, seeking diverse perspectives, considering multiple anchors, utilizing decision-making tools, and encouraging independent thinking. The role of education and training in minimizing anchoring bias is discussed, as well as the importance of diversification and independent analysis in decision-making. By understanding and addressing anchoring bias, individuals can make more rational and unbiased financial decisions.","PeriodicalId":494635,"journal":{"name":"Studies in Psychological Science","volume":"87 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134994861","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
