However, the presence of chemicals, particularly heavy metals such as lead (Pb) and cadmium (Cd), nearing safety thresholds, has led to export rejections. The aim of this research is to detect heavy metal contaminants in fishery products using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (AAS). This research was conducted at the Fish Quarantine and Inspection Agency Denpasar, Bali. A total of 17 samples of fishery products intended for international export were analyzed. The results of the tests revealed that none of the samples exceeded the allowable threshold for heavy metal contamination.","PeriodicalId":493813,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Marine and Coastal Science","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135586098","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

On this island, there are various native Indonesian vegetation, including mangroves. One of the biological functions of mangrove plants is as a shelter for marine species, wave breaker, and as a phytoremediator to prevent water pollution. This research is an exploratory study that aims to discover the diversity of mangrove species on Sempu Island and evaluate their potential as heavy metal phytoremediator using the literature review method. The exploration was conducted in July 2022 on three different locations on Sempu Island, which are Semut Bay, Ra'as Bay, and Freshwater area. In conclusion, eight species have been identified as true mangrove species in Sempu Island Nature Reserve, East Java. Such as Aegiceras corniculatum, Ceriops decandra, Exoecaria agallocha, Heritiera littoralis, Rhizophora apiculate, Rhizophora mucronata, Rhizophora stylosa, and Xylocarpus granatum, which originate from five families and six genera. Furthermore, Ceriops decandra has a conservation status of \"Near Threatened.\" The study also revealed that the mangrove forest in Semut Bay offers better zonation compared to Ra'as Bay and Freshwater. Importantly, after conducting literature review, it shows that all mangrove species discovered have the potential to remediate waters polluted by heavy metals including Cu, Zn, Pb, Hg, Cd, Mn, Fe, and Cr.","PeriodicalId":493813,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Marine and Coastal Science","volume":"86 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135586097","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Spirulina has high levels of protein, potassium and polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) which contain essential amino acids, phycocyanins, essential vitamins and antioxidants. The high nutritional content of Spirulina causes the higher utilization of Spirulina in food products. Taiyaki is a food product originating from Japan and also popular in Korea (bungeo-ppang). The research design consisted of four treatments and five replications. The treatment of adding Spirulina sp powder into the taiyaki filling as much as 1, 2, and 3% of the weight of the filling. The results of the Kruskal Wallis test showed that the addition of Spirulina sp powder had no effect on the parameters of appearance, aroma and texture, on the contrary it had a significant effect on the parameters of taste. The results of the Mann-Whitney follow-up test, the level of preference for taste parameters was not significantly different (p> 0.05) between P0 (without the addition of Spirulina sp powder) and the treatment with the addition of Spirulina sp powder 1% (P1), 2% (P2), and 3% (P3) of the filling weight. The addition of Spirulina sp. in taiyaki products can increase the nutritional value of taiyaki, especially the protein (3.61%) and fat (2.63%) components.","PeriodicalId":493813,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Marine and Coastal Science","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135586095","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

U. lactuca has the potency to attract cellulolytic bacteria due to its high carbohydrate content. U. lactuca is commonly found on the southern seacoast of Java Island, one of which is Ujung Genteng Beach, Sukabumi, Indonesia. In this research, we investigated the potential of cellulolytic bacteria from U. lactuca. Sources of bacteria are coming from the environment, the surface of the seaweed, and inside the seaweed (endophytes). To be able to determine the origin of the potential bacteria, the total plate count (TPC) was calculated with treatment without washing, washing with distilled water, and washing with a combination of distilled water and alcohol. From these bacteria, cellulolytic activity was tested using CMC media and morphological characterization. The most bacteria were found in the treatment without washing, as much as 7.48 Log Cfu/ml. The washing process reduced the TPC to 5.88 and 5.7 Log Cfu/ml in the treatment of washing with distilled water and washing with a combination of distilled water and alcohol, so that endophytic bacteria were obtained. The bacterial isolate with the highest cellulolytic potential was UW 1(1)1 5A1 from the non-washing treatment with a cellulolytic index of 2.25. These Gram-positive bacteria were in the form of filamentous lobates with a matte cream color with cocci-shaped cells. Meanwhile, the potential endophytic bacteria were Gram-positive coccus bacteria UW 3(1)1.2 with a cellulolytic index of 0.85. Both isolates have the potency to degrade cellulose.","PeriodicalId":493813,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Marine and Coastal Science","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135310060","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
