Emx2 is thought to be indispensable for the formation of both Mullerian and Wolffian ducts. The objective of the present study was to identify the single nucleotide polymorphism of emx2 gene in the genitalia of dairy crossbred cows with anatomical defects. An intronic variant c. 38215870 A>G identified in the ddRADseq was determined in the PCR product of 14 animals with anatomical defects in the female genitalia. The coding region of emx2 gene was amplified with an annealing temperature of 63.6 °C for 35 amplification cycles. Then the PCR products were subjected to restriction enzyme digestion by using the enzyme Hinfl , which was incubated at 37°C for one hour. While subjecting this fragment to PCR-RFLP, single band pattern was observed. All the animals exhibited a similar pattern, inferring that the population was monomorphic for this locus. None of the animals with anatomical defects in the female genitalia showed an emx2 mutation. According to this study, Mullerian duct defects in crossbred dairy animals were not frequently caused by emx2 gene.","PeriodicalId":488029,"journal":{"name":"JIVA : journal of Indian Veterinary Association Kerala","volume":"111 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135465843","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this context, a novel therapeutic regime consisting of antibiotics and plant natural products can be selected as antibacterial resistance modifying agents. This study was undertaken to assess the antibacterial activity of methanolic extracts of Terminalia catappa against tetracycline resistant Escherichia coli . Phytochemical screening was done to assess the phytochemical constituents in the methanolic plant extract. Antibacterial activity was evaluated by Kirby-Bauer disc diffusion assay. The results indicated that the methanolic extracts of Terminalia catappa significantly increased the zone of inhibition of tetracycline in a dose dependent manner against tetracycline resistant E. coli . Phytochemical analysis indicated the presence of saponins, tannins, steroids, flavonoids and phenols. The results of the study revealed that combination of phytochemicals with antibiotics can combat the antimicrobial resistance.","PeriodicalId":488029,"journal":{"name":"JIVA : journal of Indian Veterinary Association Kerala","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135466093","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
