Current research focuses on determinants of life expectancy in selected Asian economies by using panel data from 15 nations. Fixed effect results highlight that domestic general government health expenditures, economic growth, and urban population are contributing to improved life expectancy at birth. However, the unemployment rate seems to be deteriorating the life expectancy at birth in these Asian economies. The Governments of these economies must provide more educational and health facilities along with job chances to the general people. Moreover, health and educational expenditures must be the maximum share of GDP in these economies.","PeriodicalId":484274,"journal":{"name":"Journal of education and social studies","volume":"77 22","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141268459","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This research makes an effort to highlight that financial inclusion and financial development with other major factors determine human development in some selected Asian economies. The authors make use of panel data from 8 Asian nations for the year 2005 to 2018. The dependent variable is the human development index. However, financial inclusion, financial development, urban population, and general government final consumption expenditure are taken as explanatory factors in this analysis. Fixed effect results show that financial inclusion with financial development, urban population, and general government final consumption expenditures have enhanced the human development of Asian countries. The study findings recommend for maximum financial approach and financial amenities in improving the human development of nations. There is a dire need for more improved quality of education for high living standards and development.","PeriodicalId":484274,"journal":{"name":"Journal of education and social studies","volume":"19 8","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141273380","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study investigates the mediating role of opportunity and microfinance elements, along with social capital, in enhancing women’s economic empowerment. Data was collected from 205 female clients across three microfinance banks in Pakistan using closed-ended questionnaires. Employing Partial Least Squares-Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM), the study reveals strong positive correlations between women entrepreneurs’ sales performance and their ability to secure loans, acquire new skills, and establish networks. Social capital plays a pivotal role in boosting business outcomes. The relationship between loan availability, savings, skill development, social capital, and bonding is mediated by opportunities for business improvement. Vulnerability moderates the relationship between opportunity and women entrepreneurs’ sales success, allowing for business expansion. Microfinance components positively impact women’s economic empowerment.","PeriodicalId":484274,"journal":{"name":"Journal of education and social studies","volume":"163 2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140222783","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This research was supposed to explore the views of the school head teachers. A purposive sampling technique was used in the research. A sample of 12 primary head teachers of government schools were selected. It was a qualitative study and Interview protocols were used to assemble data from primary school head teachers. Qualitative data were analyzed and themes were generated manually. Results showed that the majority of the head teachers believed that SNC would help remove social disparities and promote equity in education, improve language and literacy skills, increase critical and creative thinking, and contribute to personal, social, and emotional development. Primary teachers' demographics, perceptions, and inferential analysis revealed that SNC would help remove social disparities, improve language and literacy skills, increase critical and creative thinking, and contribute to personal, social, and emotional development. Head teachers in Pakistan view the implementation of the SNC positively, believing it has the potential to create a more equitable and accessible education system. However, they emphasize the need for proper training, guidance, and monitoring to ensure the success of SNC. Overall, the findings suggest a collective understanding of the benefits of SNC and a commitment to realizing them through cooperation, and collaboration and further to widen fair and equal educational opportunities for all learners.","PeriodicalId":484274,"journal":{"name":"Journal of education and social studies","volume":"63 s242","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140223130","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A cross-sectional correlational research design was used to carry out the research. A sample of 100 children (50 boys & 50 girls) was selected at age ranging from 12-18 years through purposive sampling. The data was collected from two NGOs in Lahore through purposive sampling. An adapted and translated Child Abuse Screening Tool was used to identify children with different levels and types of abuse and neglect. Urdu version of the Youth Psychopathy Inventory was used to find out psychopathy traits. The deliberate Self-Harm Inventory was translated into Urdu for the purpose of assessing self-harm behavior in participants along with a demographic questionnaire. Pearson product-moment correlation showed there was no significant relationship between psychopathy and child abuse. It was identified that there were no significant gender differences between psychopathy traits and self-harming behaviors in abused children. The current study is significant because it addresses the pressing public issue prevailing in the country day by day, and it has a negative impact on the victim’s survival. The findings revealed that child abuse leads victims towards self-harm and can develop psychopathic traits. On the basis of results, further study is needed to be conducted on these variables, as self-harm was more reported in abused children as compared to psychopathic traits. The variables used in this study needed to be addressed broadly to evaluate the clear impact of abuse in this study, the limitation was the availability of limited data due to the sensitivity of the topic or legal issues that could be addressed in future studies.","PeriodicalId":484274,"journal":{"name":"Journal of education and social studies","volume":"40 16","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140231427","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study used a phenomenological approach to qualitative research design. Total 528 students and 50 teachers were selected using a purposive sampling method with data analysed by Moustakas’s transcendental approach. The participants conceptualised democracy as a political system, civic participation and influence of government decision-making. They developed ideas about democratic citizenship from multiple sources, such as family members, networking, citizenship projects, professional development training, political engagement, travel, and involvement in community services. Teachers implemented their perspectives by utilising experiential learning, incorporating student’s ideas into teaching methods and employing technology. Other findings that emerged included the educator’s inadequate preparation of instructional strategies and student’s apathetic responses to learning about the democratic process. This study reveals the need for educators, teachers, and policymakers to collaborate to develop instructional practices, incorporate experiential learning experiences and improve social studies curricula to promote student engagement.","PeriodicalId":484274,"journal":{"name":"Journal of education and social studies","volume":"80 4","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140235129","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Pakistani English newspapers are ever under investigation from various linguistic angles, such as discourse analysis, code mixing, syntactic features, etc., but coordination and its agreement have always been ignored among Pakistani scholars. In the current study, the internal syntactic layer of conjoined phrases, clauses, and sentences has been hierarchically envisaged using empirical evidence from Pakistani English newspapers. This study adopts qualitative designed research and takes Murphy and Puškar (2018) as a framework to analyse coordination and agreement patterns in newspaper discourse. According to this framework, there are some syntactic operations (merge, agree, move) and steps to conjoin the phrases, clauses, and sentences in a uniform way. This study proposes that coordination and agreement are the recursive processes within the generative paradigm. The study furthermore predicts that the patterns of agreement within conjoined phrases, clauses, and sentences are first conjunct agreement (FCA), and last conjunct agreement (LCA) on various positions: subjective and objective conjoined expressions have been investigated, and these agreement patterns are due to the gender (p) and number (#) agreement.","PeriodicalId":484274,"journal":{"name":"Journal of education and social studies","volume":"13 9","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138590368","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The socio-cultural determinants play a pivotal role in reinforcing the significance attached to marks, impacting educational systems, and shaping the experiences of students as they navigate the academic landscape. The research delves into the complex web of socio-cultural factors that underlie the pervasive marks culture in Dir Lower's matric and FA/FSc education. This study underscores the significance of academic grading in shaping the educational landscape, policies, and societal perspectives on education. Within the unique socio-cultural milieu of Dir Lower, where the fixation on marks is deeply rooted in the cultural and social fabric, this research explores how these determinants interact with and influence the marks culture. This study employed quantitative research methods and Social Capital theory to explore the correlation between independent and dependent variables. The sample size of 326 high and higher secondary school teachers was done through stratified random sampling, and data were gathered utilizing structured questionnaires. Information was examined with SPSS, which includes univariate and bivariate, to grasp the singular variables and their interaction. The study shows the popularity of educational achievement as a cultural norm, inclined by family and socioeconomic status of individual and societal prospects. The study points out the subsidiary impact of cultural values on education and assessment practices where teacher and student relations, parental participation, and peer effect are recognized as arbitrating influences sandwiched between socio-cultural determinants and the marks emphasized in Dir Lower. This study underlines the importance of socio-cultural factors in determining students' attitudes and offers valuable insights for educational stakeholders. As an outcome, the research affords prized insights for educationalists and commends fostering social awareness, assisting different students, engaging the community, and implementing context-specific policies to create a more balanced educational environment in Dir Lower.","PeriodicalId":484274,"journal":{"name":"Journal of education and social studies","volume":"113 13","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138607623","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
