These changes are in form of several learning activities, and personal/collective adjustments in order to perform the roles of parents adequately. However, most parents are not usually prepared for these inevitable changes thereby making them experience a mixed feeling of depression and joy simultaneously. Joy that arise from the arrival of the child and their transition into parenthood; and depression arising from doubt of their readiness for parenthood. In order to understand the impact of child birth on couples in Abia state, the study investigated the perceived physical and emotional health impact of childbirth on married couples. The study used a cross-sectional convergent mixed design to perform the research. 90 couples (180 individuals) were recruited from 9 primary healthcare centres in Abia. The modified RAND-36 item survey (version-1) and interviews guide were used to acquire data for the study. Data was analysed using the RAND 36 item health survey 1.0 scoring method for the quantitative data while thematic analysis was performed on the qualitative data.","PeriodicalId":484166,"journal":{"name":"INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF HEALTH AND PHARMACEUTICAL RESEARCH","volume":"234 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135803706","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The ethanol crude extract indicates high antibacterial efficacy of 6.0, 12.0, 16,0, 16.0mm and 10.0, 16.0, 16.0 and 16.0mm with all the concentrations used against Staphylococcus aureus and Shigella dysenteriae respectively while the aqueous crude extract also indicates activity of 6.0, 12.0, 16,0, 20.0mm and 12.0, 16.0, 16.0 and 16.0mm all all the concentrations used against Staphylococcus aureus and Shigella dysenteriae. Ciprofloxacin impregnanted antibiotic disc was used as positive control which indicates activity of 18.0 and 20.0 against Staphylococcus aureus and Shigella dysenteriae. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and the minimum bactericidal study of ethanol and aqueous stem bark crude extracts of Adamsonia digitata against Staphylococcus aureus and Shigella dysenteriae indicates that the plant part used is potent against the test bacteria under study. The phytochhemical screening of the stem bark crude extracts of the plant showed the present of alkanoids, saponins, tannins, flavonoids, terpeniods, glycoside and Anthraquinose. This research work is pointer of the possible used of Adamsonia digitata stem bark crude extracts as remedy for the treatment of infections or disorders cause by these bacteria under study.","PeriodicalId":484166,"journal":{"name":"INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF HEALTH AND PHARMACEUTICAL RESEARCH","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135803372","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Because of the nature of the job, correctional guards often encounter perilous circumstances. While working as prison guards or transporting inmates, many correctional officers have suffered injuries or have been killed. However, administrators of correctional facilities now place a higher priority than ever on the physical and mental well-being of their staff. Examined workplace hazards and employees' opinions of safety procedures at the Nigerian Correctional Center in Rivers State. Four goals, four appraisal questions, and two hypotheses served as the appraisal's guiding principles. The appraisal used a hybrid approach that included quantitative and qualitative approaches. 205 employees of correctional facilities made up the appraisal's population, from whom 136 were selected using a multistage selection technique. Data were gathered using an interview guide and verified self-structured questionnaire with a reliability value of 0.903. Following the examiner's instrument administration, 132 fully completed copies of the instrument were retrieved, representing a 97% return rate. Data analysis techniques included percentage, mean, standard deviation, chi squares, and discourse analysis. The employees were exposed to a range of risks, including physical, biological, chemical, and psychological risks, with physical risks predominating, in congruent with the upshots. With a reactive approach to worker safety and hazard management, the correctional institutions' overall hazard control measures were subpar. However, the workers' safety procedures were generally sound, as evidenced by their high mean scores for pre-employment instruction, the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and the availability of first aid kits at the workplace. In congruent with the appraisal's upshots, the pe","PeriodicalId":484166,"journal":{"name":"INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF HEALTH AND PHARMACEUTICAL RESEARCH","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135803747","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In 2010, the WHO indicated that maternal deaths in Nigeria contributed to 14% of global maternal deaths. In 2018 Nigeria’s maternal mortality rate was 512 deaths per 100,000 live births. The WHO and other key partners developed the Safe Childbirth Checklist (SCC) as a facility-based tool to serve as reminder to help health workers adhere to evidence-based practices to ensure safety of the mother and baby. SCC has reportedly been adopted for use in other countries like Brazil and Cameroon. The objective of this study was to assess the Doctors and Nurses’ Knowledge and Use of SCC in public tertiary hospitals in Rivers State. Descriptive cross-sectional study was used. Structured questionnaires were self-administered to 207 respondents (35 nurses and 67 doctors at RSUTH, 49 nurses and 56 doctors at UPTH) working in obstetrics and gynaecology department. Chi-square was used to test the hypothesis. Descriptive statistics was used to assess the responses of the respondents. Responses obtained at Teaching Hospital A showed that 80% of the Nurses/Midwives have no knowledge of SCC tool, 100% of the House Officers have not seen the tool; 90% of the Resident Doctors have not also used SCC tool. At Teaching Hospital B, 80% of the Nurses have no knowledge of SCC tool; 20% of the Nurses had seen it earlier. The study showed evidence that SCC tool is not in use in the two tertiary hospitals in Rivers State. Null hypothesis was accepted.","PeriodicalId":484166,"journal":{"name":"INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF HEALTH AND PHARMACEUTICAL RESEARCH","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135803746","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Hepatitis B infection, a disease caused by hepatitis B virus, is a major cause of cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinomas. It is a highly infectious disease that is responsible for numerous deaths worldwide. It is transmitted through contact with infected body fluids like blood, semen, vaginal fluid and mucus membrane. This makes unprotected sex, blood transfusion and perinatal transfusion, the major means of transfusion. Medical students, who are part of health workers, are at greater risk of the infection than the general public. So, this research is to assess the knowledge, attitude and practices of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Medical students’ towards hepatitis B. Sample size was estimated based on the findings of knowledge regarding hepatitis B among Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital clinical medical students. A self-administered questionnaire that was written in English was used as instrument for data collection in this study. Descriptive analyses followed by normality test using statistical tests like Chi-square and Spearman’s correlation were used to analyze the data. The overall response rate was 86.91%. Out of 352 respondents, 199 (56.5%) were males and the 153 (43.5%) were females, all of which were within the ages of 20 and 40 years. There were significant positive correlation between knowledge and practice towards hepatitis B were 0.81 with P value <0.001 and 0.225 with P value <0.001 respectively. Correlation between attitude and practice towards hepatitis B is 0.312 p-value <0.004, thus, showing that more respondents have more knowledge of hepatitis B. The results showed that the percentages of medical students who knew more about hepatitis B were generally typical. A little over half of the respondents have a good attitude towards the disease.","PeriodicalId":484166,"journal":{"name":"INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF HEALTH AND PHARMACEUTICAL RESEARCH","volume":"145 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135520548","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
