It reviews the different phases of research and work process, from the initial time-consuming labour of bringing to light a very extensive bibliography – a task begun in an unfavourable context in 1940 – to the composition of the last of the dictionary’s entries at the end of 1951. The structure of the entries of the DECLC and the author’s ideologies are studied, and his tendency of attributing excessive importance to the “sorotàptic” and “mozaràbic” substrates is criticised. In spite of these weak points, the Diccionari etimològic i complementari de la Llengua Catalana of Coromines is very important for Catalan lexicography.
