This contradictory situation is particularly evident in the way in which science appears in public: on the one hand, expertise is transformed into a set of opinions that can be shared or not shared, as political decision-making seeks to legitimise itself more and more through ‘experts’. On the other hand, in times of crisis or rapid social change in general, the call for the replacement of politics by science grows louder: to bring the pandemic under control, virologists are supposed to say what measures should be taken to restrict individual freedoms. Such scientification of politics ultimately affects both fields, so that the fact that politics and science follow different functional principles is no longer recognised on either side: ‘evidence-based’ politics forgets that the political field is about balancing interests and setting values. In our article, however, we ask about the connection of this paradoxical situation with ‘the’ scientific practice itself: to what extent has science itself contributed to this strangely contradictory social role of its production of knowledge? {"title":"„Wahrheit“, „Lügen“ und Mehr: erkenntnistheoretische Voraussetzungen für einen konstruktiven politischen Diskurs","authors":"Wilhelm Kempf","doi":"10.1007/s43638-023-00077-z","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1007/s43638-023-00077-z","url":null,"abstract":"Abstract Building on methodical constructivism, the paper examines the differences between trans-subjectively founded (objective) reality, merely intersubjectively agreed (social) reality, and subjective reality in the narrow sense, and refutes the social constructivist view according to which every representation of reality only offers a distorted image of reality, so that all representations of reality stand side by side on an equal footing. Admitting that socially constructed reality is necessarily selective and therefore an interpreted (meaningful) reality, the paper argues that truth vs. falsehood is not the only criterion by which a construction of reality can be measured. Although the discourse about meanings cannot be a discourse about whether they are true or false, constructions of reality can nonetheless be questioned for their appropriateness for constructive problem solving. Political discourse, however, is all too often not about problem solving, but about gaining power, maintaining power, and using power in order to enforce one’s own positions. Appropriateness then gets replaced by mere expediency, and populist politicians drive this to a perfection in which their careless handling of truth is only the tip of the iceberg. Um diese These plausibel zu machen, präsentiert der vorliegende Aufsatz philosophische, psychologische und literaturwissenschaftliche Perspektiven auf demenzielle Erkrankungen. Aus einer philosophisch-psychologischen Perspektive wird dabei zunächst gezeigt, dass das Selbst von Menschen mit Demenz auch mit fortschreitendem Krankheitsverlauf nicht seine lebensgeschichtliche Tiefe verliert. In einem zweiten Schritt wird darauf aufbauend argumentiert, dass demenzielle Erkrankungen nicht nur die erkrankte Person selbst, sondern immer auch ein soziales Beziehungsgefüge betreffen. Als eine Option, mit den daraus resultierenden Belastungen umzugehen, wird die Beschäftigung mit kreativen Aktivitäten vorgestellt. Basierend darauf wird schließlich die Frage erörtert, welche Einsichten die Auseinandersetzung mit literarischen Demenzdarstellungen bereithalten kann. Hervorgehoben wird dabei neben der Möglichkeit der mimetischen Annäherung an die Innenperspektive erkrankter Personen vor allem das Potenzial, gedankliche Resonanz- und Assoziationsräume zu öffnen.
