Evidence From Self-Exciting Threshold Autoregressive Model","authors":"Yusuf m, Erhan l","doi":"10.5455/ey.28003","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.5455/ey.28003","url":null,"abstract":"Economic growth and employment have long been a source of concern for economists and policymakers. Okun, an American economist, was the first to examine the relationship between economic growth and unemployment. Okun’s law states that a 3% increase in output results in a 1% drop in unemployment. The main objective of this paper is to examine this hypothesis for Turkish economy by using quarterly data from 2001 to 2023. The relationship between the unemployment and economic growth has been analyzed by employing Granger causality test and self-exciting threshold autoregressive (SETAR) model. According to SETAR findings, there exists a threshold value binding in describing the relationship between unemployment and economic growth. As a result, Okun's Law is applicable to Türkiye.","PeriodicalId":476156,"journal":{"name":"Ekonomik yaklaşım","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135843082","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It will be explained within the framework of circular and cumulative causation concept that tourism can raise living standards and economic development in these countries. The impact of exporting services in international trade on economic growth and hence on economic development can manifest themselves through employment created, market and rising incomes, and foreign exchange inflows. Moreover, it cannot be ignored the gains of tourism sector on decreasing the regional imbalances in a given country.","PeriodicalId":476156,"journal":{"name":"Ekonomik yaklaşım","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135843076","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
{"title":"Inflation Dynamics of Developing Countries in the Process of Globalization","authors":"Tolga Aksoy, G Yay","doi":"10.5455/ey.28001","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.5455/ey.28001","url":null,"abstract":"Inflation has been one of the most extensive research areas in economics literature due to its impact on purchasing power, income distribution, and economic stability. Several studies in the literature state that developed countries largely resolved their inflation problem in the 1980s, not because of the economic policies applied but due to globalization beginning to dominate the world economy. However, developing countries continued to struggle with high inflation as they integrate into the world economy. The purpose of this study is to test the impact of globalization and domestic economic policies on inflation in developing countries. To this end, we use a panel data set covering the period from 1990 to 2019. According to the results of the Generalized Method of Moments estimation, there is no statistically significant relationship between inflation and economic globalization in developing countries. However, the inflation rate is negatively related to the budget deficit ratio and positively related to the increase in money supply growth rate.","PeriodicalId":476156,"journal":{"name":"Ekonomik yaklaşım","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135843080","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The system primarily operates on a withholding tax basis, employing progressive tax rates and a Minimum Living Allowance to reduce payable income tax. Despite addressing the ability to pay, no concrete measures were implemented during that period to bridge the gender pay gap or enhance employment incentives. Regression models using panel data reveal bias in favor of male wage earners regarding income tax tariffs and minimum living allowances within the analyzed period.","PeriodicalId":476156,"journal":{"name":"Ekonomik yaklaşım","volume":"60 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135843083","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
