This phenomenon is not easily explained by a realistic approach that emphasizes the international structure and the power of the great powers. This study emphasizes the need to examine Korea’s internal diplomatic capabilities in order to explain the improvement of relations between Korea and Hungary. To this end, this study presents strategic autonomy as an alternative analysis concept, which has not been dealt with in terms of the performance of Korean diplomacy. As a result of the analysis, Korea’s improvement of relations with Hungary is explained in terms of strategic autonomy in that it proactively achieved the goal of Korean foreign policy, establishment of diplomatic relations with the communist bloc, in cooperation with its ally, the United States.","PeriodicalId":475509,"journal":{"name":"Dongseo yeon'gu","volume":"192 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136377442","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Xi Jinping’s 3rd term is characterized as Xi’s absolute dictatorship and Xijiajun’s monopoly of political power. The dictatorship system has multiple implications on China’s politics. The most significant implication is substantial degeneration of China’s institutionalization in term of political power. It is to bring about increasing inflexibility in political and policy decision making processes and degenerating political resilience of the Chinese politics. Also, it means rising instabilities in China’s politics, economy, and foreign policy. The paper examines the Xi’s 3rd term system focusing on the degeneration of political institutionalization. Lastly, it anticipates policy directions of the Xi’s 3rd term, and then draws its political implications.","PeriodicalId":475509,"journal":{"name":"Dongseo yeon'gu","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136377455","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

He converted fellow prisoners there, and set up a school and a library to teach them. The prison school and the library were the birthplace of the coexistence of civilization. Rhee enlightened prisoners and expanded his worldview through a large amount of reading. Rhee read Christian books, books on international law, newspapers and magazines, and literary books in prison. Rhee's writing in prison is divided into books and editorials. Rhee's remaining translations and writings in prison are Cheyeok jip (Anthology of Poems Written in Lieu of Physical Labor), Cheong-Il jeon-gi (A History of the Sino-Japanese War), New English-Korean Dictionary, and The Spirit of Independence. Rhee was able to carry out several tasks at the same time because he wrote and translated according to a meticulous plan, and carefully recorded the writing schedule in various places. From February 8, 1902 to August 7, 1904, Rhee also contributed numerous anonymous editorials to the Jeguk sinmun (Imperial Newspaper) and spread the strategy of Joseon's independence to the public based on his open worldview.","PeriodicalId":475509,"journal":{"name":"Dongseo yeon'gu","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136377452","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In particular, under the 1955 system of the Liberal Democratic Party, political interest is being promoted, and the process of forming institutionalized interest groups and citizens’ movements is being explored. This paper focuses on the relationship between political parties and social groups as to why, while interest groups have developed, the formation and institutionalization of civil movements such as new social movements have been delayed and the scope of institutionalization has become limited., discussed from the political and economic aspects. In terms of political space, the 1955 regime was a time when the relationship between political parties and social groups was formed through public policies, administrative mobilization systems, and electoral systems biased toward individual interests. As social capacity, economic resources during the period of rapid growth promoted the development of interest groups. While interest groups developed under the LDP's long-term reign, the Socialist Party’s labor union-dependent constitution, citizen movements that emerged to respond to socioeconomic changes were institutionalized within a limited scope due to the lack of available political and economic resources in the political and economic conditions of the 1970s.","PeriodicalId":475509,"journal":{"name":"Dongseo yeon'gu","volume":"72 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136377451","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Beyond the altruistic incentives for such help, however, there is self-interest involved. Consequently, foreign aid is not always directed towards the states who need it the most, but rather to those, who can contribute to the donor’s strategic considerations. India is one of the emerging countries, which over the past three decades has been expanding its foreign aid in scale and scope. The rationale behind such foreign policy move by New Delhi is argued to be improving India’s international standing. Its biggest rival China, however, is rapidly expanding its own influence and is stepping into India’s strategic space. In this paper we argue that ongoing emerging power rivalry with China is a key determinant in New Delhi’s foreign aid allocation decisions. we analyse India’s foreign assistance for the period 2015-2020 and look for the ‘China factor’ in its allocation strategies. The cases of the Maldives and Mauritius provide evidence for the main argument and show India as a ‘reactive donor’.","PeriodicalId":475509,"journal":{"name":"Dongseo yeon'gu","volume":"111 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136377454","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Existing scholarship on media outlets in authoritarian countries has largely focused on their domestic political dynamic. This paper extends this literature by analyzing the patterns of authoritarian media reporting targeting international audiences. Analyzing 85,313 English news articles published by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) from 2008-2020, I find different effects of the North Korean regime’s security and economic interests on the coverage frequency and favorability of other countries in the reports. Security interests affect both coverage frequency and favorability whereas economic interests, especially the size of imports, affect only coverage frequency to a limited extent. This implies that English broadcasting in North Korea is used as a tool frequently signal to its adversaries frequently and occasionally signal to economic partners.","PeriodicalId":475509,"journal":{"name":"Dongseo yeon'gu","volume":"188 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136377453","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It shows that most respondents believe that Korean democracy is in retreat and that it has become the worst since the Yoon’s administration. In addition, they attribute its responsibility to undemocratic behavior of various political actors, including the president and his presidential office, the prosecutors’ office, political parties, the media, the ultra-right civil organizations, and severe income gap, rather than the majoritarian electoral system and political culture. It is also notable that public perception of democratic backsliding depends on their ideological orientations, which are notable toward the most recent administrations. Empirical test results show that the more conservative they are, the stronger their belief that democracy has retreated the most during the Moon Jae-In administration rather than other administrations. Based on these findings, this study claims that more efforts are needed to evaluate the current issues of democracy without ideological bias, along with sincere awareness of the overwhelming public concern that Korean democracy is retreating, and rehabilitate democracy.","PeriodicalId":475509,"journal":{"name":"Dongseo yeon'gu","volume":"90 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136377449","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
