There are several media reporting guidelines, both locally and internationally, and they typically provide similar information. These include determining whether the incident involved mental illness, using appropriate and non-discriminatory language, conveying accurate knowledge about mental illness, and seeking advice from a mental health professional. To ensure active use of media reporting guidelines, intervention at the level of central ministries such as the Ministry of Health and Welfare may be helpful. In addition to guidelines, it is essential to have monitoring of media reports and institutional support to enable early detection and early treatment to prevent accidents caused by mental illness such as schizophrenia.","PeriodicalId":475445,"journal":{"name":"대한조현병학회지","volume":"88 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136070003","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, we have only paid attention to potential treatments relatively recently. This paper describes the development of cognitive remediation treatments to improve cognitive skills and their effects on functioning. It also reviews the types of cognitive remediation with some evidence on their effects. This evidence allowed the models of treatment to be clarified and led to a landmark paper by cognitive remediation experts around the world on the ingredients of cognitive remediation to have the best chance of benefit. This expert judgement on good clinical practice was justified by a large meta-analysis that supported the extra benefit of the four ingredients: an active therapist, massed practice of cognitive skills, the teaching of cognitive strategies and additional rehabilitation to transfer skills to real life. Although there is evidence of efficacy there is little implementation of cognitive remediation, so the review ends by suggesting a pathway to establish cognitive remediation into mental health services. The paper is a summary of a lecture given to the spring conference 2023 of the Korean Society of Schizophrenia Research. This review was also published in Psychiatric Investigation by agreement between the editors.","PeriodicalId":475445,"journal":{"name":"대한조현병학회지","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136070000","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Clozapine metabolism varies by ancestry, particularly among Asians, warranting lower dosage. Recently, Dr. De Leon introduced guidelines based on ancestral differences. We aimed to provide a Korean translation, focusing on illustrating the necessity through clinical cases.Methods: The Korean translation of the guidelines, approved by Dr. De Leon, involved two psychiatrists who reviewed and revised each other’s work. An additional board-certified psychiatrist conducted an independent review. We examined two clinical cases from our institution’s database, where clozapine titration faced challenges due to fever and pneumonia, assessing guideline applicability.Results: The guidelines recommend a target clozapine dose of 175-300 mg/day for Asians with average metabolism and a slower titration rate compared to other ancestries. In both cases, CRP elevation was detected either before or simultaneously with the onset of fever, with a concentration-to-dose ratio ranging from 3.06 to 6.97.Conclusion: The initial clozapine titration process should consider metabolic differences by ancestry and monitor for inflammation. Further research is needed to optimize the titration process for Koreans, considering metabolic rates, usage patterns, and side effects.","PeriodicalId":475445,"journal":{"name":"대한조현병학회지","volume":"79 ","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136070700","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, there is insufficient research on the differences in C/D ratio between Korean TRS patients and Caucasian TRS patients. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate prescribed CZP dosage, CZP concentration and C/D ratio in Korean TRS patients.Methods: The study included TRS patients aged 18 years or older who were prescribed CZP for at least 12 weeks at a psychiatric hospital in Korea. We collected demographic information, smoking status, hospitalization status, CZP serum concentration, total CZP dosage, and norclozapine (NCZP) serum concentration and analyzed their statistical correlations.Results: The study found that the average daily CZP dosage was 266.1 mg, and the average CZP concentration was 568.0 ng/mL. There was a significant correlation between CZP serum concentration and smoking status, as well as sex. CZP dosage was not significantly associated with age, weight, BMI, or metabolic rate. The study also found a significant difference in C/D ratio between groups based on CZP serum concentration.Conclusion: Our study suggests that recommended CZP dosages for Caucasians may not be suitable for Koreans due to C/D ratio differences. We found a relationship between CZP serum concentration and C/D ratio in Korean TRS patients. Therefore, it is crucial to confirm CZP serum concentration to avoid side effects and to find optimal dosage.","PeriodicalId":475445,"journal":{"name":"대한조현병학회지","volume":"287 ","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136069254","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The subjects completed self-report questionnaires measuring changes in their daily life, their perceptions of the current status of COVID-19 and their basic knowledge about the disease.Results: Compared to the normal control group, the inpatients and outpatients with schizophrenia underestimated the cumulative number of confirmed COVID-19 cases and overestimated the mortality rate of COVID-19. The mortality rates of COVID-19 and the common cold were higher in the order of inpatients, outpatients, and normal controls. The main route of SARS-CoV-2 infection and the main symptoms of COVID-19 were accurately recognized by more than 95% in the normal group and more than 80% in outpatients, but inpatients chose the correct answers at a lower rate. In the questions about misperceptions about COVID-19, the correct answer rate was high in the order of normal controls, outpatients, and inpatients. Most patients with schizophrenia obtained information about COVID-19 on TV, while most normal controls collected information through the internet.Conclusion: This study showed that awareness of COVID-19 among patients with schizophrenia is insufficient. Additional measures are needed to provide accurate information and the current status of COVID-19 to patients with schizophrenia.","PeriodicalId":475445,"journal":{"name":"대한조현병학회지","volume":"147 ","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136069840","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
