Baudelaire, known for his vision of a modern world shrouded in dark melancholy and despair, creates a poetic universe that transcends traditional aesthetic norms and lays the foundations of symbolist aesthetics. Through the analysis of Baudelaire's verses, we discover the complex relationship between beauty and evil, as well as the deep melancholy that permeates his poetry. Baudelaire's relationship to man and his view of human nothingness and conflict with the world are also explored, and thus we mark the inseparable connection between poetry and philosophy. Through the use of symbolic language and metaphors, Baudelaire creates poetic images that express existential anxiety and the inner struggle of man with himself. In addition, we analyze the role of poets in the development of Marxist aesthetics and political thought. In contemporary society, the erosion of moral principles has become a pressing concern. The decline in ethical values, societal norms, and the erosion of moral boundaries have led to various social issues, impacting individuals, families, and communities. Literature, particularly drama, has often been a medium through which society reflects on its values and seeks to restore or reshape them. Ifeyinwa Uzondu's play, Which Way is Right?, explores themes related to moral dilemmas, societal norms, and the consequences of one's actions. The theoretical framework employed in this research draws from moral philosophy, ethical theories, and dramatic literature analysis. By examining the intricacies of Uzondu's play, the study aims to elucidate how drama serves as a powerful medium to engage with and interrogate moral and ethical dilemmas. The methodology involves a comprehensive textual analysis of Which Way is Right? to identify and dissect key moral and ethical themes. The findings illuminate the effectiveness of Uzondu's artistic choices in conveying complex moral dilemmas to the audience. In conclusion, this research makes a noteworthy contribution to knowledge by expanding our understanding of the moral dimensions of dramatic literature and the capacity of theatre to foster ethical awareness. {"title":"THE VISION OF RICH DEATH IN JOHN KEATS’S “ODE TO A NIGHTINGALE”: AN AUROBINDONEAN PERSPECTIVE","authors":"Nikhil Kumar","doi":"10.46827/ejls.v4i2.474","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.46827/ejls.v4i2.474","url":null,"abstract":"John Keats’s vision of rich death while listening to the melodious voice of Nightingale, the manifestation of the Immortal on the earth, takes one beyond the plane of corporeality of the terrestrial existence. One comes to the plane of death-birth continuum, and, consequently, discovers a supra-earthly, nay, spiritual truth, the plane which earlier comes into the vision of the ancient Rishis of India. The richness of death which comes into the vision of Keats is revealed when we explore death in the light of the yogic discovery of Sri Aurobindo, a literary luminary of the 19th-20th century of India of, what he calls, ‘Psychic Being’, a flame of the Divine Self in the being of man. Sri Aurobindo discovers that the psychic being is instrumental in the evolution of consciousness to its spiritual and supramental planes in the death-birth phenomenon as it gathers the spiritual experiences of man’s life and, accordingly, lays foundation of his higher spiritual life to come in his next birth. Being immortal, it carries the foundation in the next birth of man. He also discovers that the foundation is laid at the time of the physical death of man. In the being of man, as he discovers, Jivatman exists simultaneously in its other poise i.e., its spark state, —the spark state which grows to be ‘Fire’, the ‘Psychic Being’ he terms it. These two poises of Jivatman, the Divine Self existing separately though one at the base in the being of man brings the separative principle of consciousness into existence to reign him. In other words, the separate existence of Jivatman, the central being, and its spark state, to be more specific, the very separation between the two gives birth to the separative principle of consciousness in the being of man. The separative consciousness manifests in limitations, finiteness. When the Psychic Being comes to be one with Its Divine Origin, Jivatman as a result of its growth into ‘Fire’ which is the spiritual ascent of man, manifesting his resultant transformation, the separative principle of consciousness comes to its end. The limitations end, and man enters into the world of Infinity consequently. What Sri Aurobindo terms ‘Spaceless Self’, the Self of the One which remains eclipsed or remains in bondage on account of the reign of the separative principle of consciousness gets its release consequent upon the oneness of the Psychic Being and the Jivatman. It rises to take over the rein of the being of man. As a writer who has appeared on the lute for about 15 years, her work has given off new and different vitality in the way she looks at life and people, especially in women. Therefore, changing the taste is something people are still interested in in a fairly familiar menu. Her works have been received by the public and literary critics in many different ways. The scope of this study includes three collections of short stories by Nguyen Huong Duyen: “The arduous waiting wharf” (2006), “Among men” (2015) and “Writing to you from this kitchen” (2020). The theoretical research of the thesis is the theoretical issues of short stories, generalization of short stories by Nguyen Huong Duyen in the flow of contemporary short stories and regional prose of Central Province of Quang Binh, Vietnam; salient features of the character's world, and modes of expression. From there, readers can see the contributions of writer Nguyen Huong Duyen to the development of female short stories in particular and contemporary Vietnamese prose in general. The study explores and clarifies the characteristics of female characters in both aspects of content and art of characters portrayed in the short stories by Nguyen Huong Duyen. On that basis, it shows the writer's creative characteristics and places her short stories in the flow of contemporary female short stories. It can be said that the female character in Nguyen Huong Duyen's short stories has left a deep impression on readers. Each female character appears with different life paths and identities, but they are similar in one point: they all have an insatiable desire to find self. Approaching Nguyen Huong Duyen's short stories, the researchers hope to contribute to understanding and identifying the characteristics of the female character, the research object that creates the appearance of Nguyen Huong Duyen's short stories while also recognizing the writer's contribution. When researching this topic, the researchers selected Megastory articles on the baotintuc.vn online newspaper for the survey. The study would examine 74 articles in the Megastory category in a 12-month period in 2020. From this respect, it aims to generalize the characteristics of content and form of this genre with various fields. The Women's Newspaper of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam is one of the official newspapers that publishes accurate and timely information about the entertainment sector about the happenings of the concerns of domestic and foreign entertainment. Joining a survey on the field of online newspapers to have a better view of the Entertainment column of the Ho Chi Minh City Women's Online Newspaper is a job that comes from great interest in the entertainment sector. Today, it is still a researcher's job to understand and clearly analyze the inherent characteristics of this column. The research is carried out with specific objectives, namely, firstly, surveying the outstanding features of the content and form of the Ho Chi Minh City Women's Online Newspaper in the Entertainment section. Secondly, it is applied to the theories of online journalism to conduct through a survey of information published in the Entertainment column of the Ho Chi Minh City Women's Online Newspaper, helping research work to have a close contact from theory to practice of journalism, serving to learn about the development, characteristics and requirements of a column on an online newspaper.
