This current study investigated the potency of a combined application of endophytic bacteria, decomposed olive leaves extract (OLE), and iron nanoparticles (FeNPs) for its biocontrol and growth promotion in faba bean. Two endophytic bacterial strains isolated from helthy faba bean plants and identified using 16S rRNA nucleotide sequence as Bacillus subtilis and Pseudoroseomonas wenyumeiae were studied for their antagonistic and plant growth promoting traits activities, FeNPs was biosynthesized via Pseudoroseomonas wenyumeiae . OLE was biodegraded using a fungus Bosea thiooxidans to enhance its antifungal potential. A research experiment was designed based on natural field infection. Significant differences in disease severity index (DSI) and disease incidence (DI) were noticed. While untreated plants exhibited the highest disease burden (DI = 72.5%, DSI = 0.275),the combined application of bioagents, decomposed OLE, and FeNPs as both soil drench and foliar spray (FeNPs) showed the lowest disease severity (DI = 34.2%, DSI = 0.089). Treated plants demonstrated improved growth parameters, including increased height, wet and dry weight, number of pods, weight of 100 seeds, macro-and microelement content. This study suggested that the synergistic combination of endophytic bacteria, OLE, and FeNPs offered a promising and sustainable biocontrol strategy against Fusarium wilt in faba bean, promoting plant growth and reducing reliance on chemical pesticides.","PeriodicalId":470469,"journal":{"name":"Egyptian Journal of Desert Research","volume":"24 3","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141233686","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Moringa oleifera is a tree rich in various phytochemicals with health benefits. Among the reported health benefits are antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether dried M. oleifera leaves ethanolic extract would resist acute lung-induced inflammation in W138 cells by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) in vitro models. M. oleifera leaves were analyzed for phytochemicals using standard methods. The screening showed the presence of tannins, saponins, flavonoids, phenolic acids, alkaloids, terpenoids, and steroids. HPLC analysis confirmed high levels of bioactive polyphenols in the ethanolic extract (7 phenolic acids and 5 flavonoid compounds) according to the standards used. The ethanolic extract of leaves showed the highest cell viability and more than 85% of the cells were viable at 1, 10, and 100 µmol/ml values in comparison with dexamethasone as a standard anti-inflammatory drug ( P < 0.05 ) . Leaves ethanolic extract EC 50 value was 0.79 µmol/ml and significantly suppressed the production level of IL-1β (14.46 ±1.92 mg/ml) and IL-6 (51.67± 2.0 mg/ml) in comparison to controls ( P < 0.05 ). Notably, this study showed that ethyl acetate, ether extracts of H. arbainense demonstrated clear antimicrobial activity against Cmm. Chromatographic techniques were employed to isolate flavonoid-free and glycoside compounds from the most potent fractions. Concurrently, rhizobacteria, specifically Pseudomonas taiwanensis strain Pst1 OP984768 and Bacillus velezensis strain Bv1 OP984765, were identified for their potential roles in promoting plant growth and acting as bioagents against bacterial wilt diseases. In vitro assays and greenhouse experiments were performed to assess the efficacy of these strains in controlling tomato bacterial wilt caused by Cmm. A synergistic approach, combining fresh cultures of both bacterial strains (Pst 1+ Bv1) and the ethyl acetate extract of H. arbainense , was assessed for its impact on disease incidence and severity. Three CWD (0, 48, and 96 Mg ha -1 ) and five intercropping systems: sole cowpea, sole sunflower, 1:1 sunflower-cowpea, 1:2 sunflower-cowpea, and 2:1 sunflower-cowpea treatments were applied. The findings indicated that the use of CWD and the intercropping system resulted in a decrease in soil pH, electrical conductivity, bulk density, and hydraulic conductivity while increasing soil organic carbon and soil maximum water holding capacity. Moreover, the application of CWD and the intercropping systems had a significant impact on plant growth index, yield, and the characteristics of cowpea and sunflower. The highest values of plant growth, yield, and its characters were observed in plants treated with 96 Mg ha -1 of CWD. Also, the results indicated that the intercropping systems had a significant impact on all the traits of cowpea and sunflower. The highest yield for sunflower was observed in both pure stand and intercropping mixtures, while for cowpea, it was only achieved in a pure stand planting system. The land equivalent ratio, relative crowding coefficient, and aggressivity indices indicated that sunflower was a stronger competitor than cowpea, and sunflower was dominant, while cowpea was dominated in the intercropping systems. In conclusion, the findings indicated the critical role of CWD and intercropping systems in improving soil properties and enhancing cowpea and sunflower productivity under calcareous soil conditions.","PeriodicalId":470469,"journal":{"name":"Egyptian Journal of Desert Research","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134886122","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As a result, the study looks at biochemical indicators stress variables to assess how seven varieties of bicolor sorghum (Roma, Cukorcirok, Ramada, Rex, Shandaweel-1, Shandaweel-15, and MN2756) thrive when exposed to high salinity and how this affects the grains yield, biochemical indicators and nutritional components. The study demonstrated that the Rex variety is distinguished from other sorghum varieties by short stem length, not surpassing 1.5 meters at harvest, medium weight of straw yield, and good grain yield. The outcomes indicated that Rex grain productivity percentage was 32.14% of the plant weight. Rex grains stand out for their high nutritional content, with phenolic compounds at 692.3 µg/g and amino acids at 297.12 mg/g in sorghum flour, respectively.
