The research employed Auto Distributed Lag Model (ARDL) to investigate the impact of FDI on Nigeria economic growth both in the short-run and long-run. It was revealed that foreign direct investment has positive significant impact on Nigeria economic growth within the period under review. The research therefore concludes, that foreign direct investment has significant impact on Nigeria economic growth collaborating the earlier findings in theoretical and empirical literatures. The research therefore, recommends among others that Nigeria government and other West-African countries should invest more in infrastructural development and on R&D to increase the country domestic firm absorptive capacity and inflow of FDI in the country.","PeriodicalId":436026,"journal":{"name":"African Economic and Management Review","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133868705","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The survey collects a wide range of information from the household about their expenditure, income sources, education, demographic information, credit, remittances, household assets among other information. The findings revealed among others that variables like income, household remittances, access to loan, family size, and healthcare expenditure are all having significant impact on household food expenditure. However, factors like age, gender, and education do not have significant impact on household food expenditure. It was also revealed that families with high income tends to spend lower proportion of their incomes on food, which is consistent with the Engel law. The study conclude that Wagner Law holds in Nigeria and that family with more size spend more on starchy and carbohydrate food than on other class of foods.","PeriodicalId":436026,"journal":{"name":"African Economic and Management Review","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125424048","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study adopted ex-post facto research design a sample of 11 companies were selected out of the 13 listed oil and gas companies on the Nigeria Stock Exchange. Panel data regression was used to analyze the effect of environmental disclosure and environmental audit on financial performance and the result of the analysis showed that environmental disclosure has a significant effect on returns on assets (ROA), Profits After Tax (PAT) and returns on equity (ROE) of listed oil and gas companies in Nigeria and environmental Audit has no significant effect on returns on assets (ROA) and Profits After Tax (PAT), but it significantly affects the returns on equity (ROE of listed oil and gas companies in Nigeria). It was then concluded that environmental disclosure and audit improves the financial performance of the selected oil and gas companies. The study implored the oil and gas companies to develop and implement environmentally friendly policies to increase their profitability.","PeriodicalId":436026,"journal":{"name":"African Economic and Management Review","volume":"59 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114224341","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Numerous countries across Europe, North America and Southeast Asia have a fully developed electricity market. In these countries, the value chain from power generation could be complex yet elegant in simplicity. All aspects of the value chain are commercial whereby there are commercial entities that generate and sell power while others could purchase power in bulk and sell to end users. The markets are dynamic despite regulations. Competition is in-built such that buyers and sellers have the robustness of choices within a given grid system. This work aims to explore the opportunities available in Nigeria for the introduction of the deregulated Electricity Markets within the ambits of the regulations of NERC (Nigerian Electricity Regulations Commission). The Nigerian public power supply infrastructure is classified into GENCOs (Generating companies), DISCOs (Distribution companies), and the TCN (Transmission companies). The TCN is limited in capacity and thus unable to effectively transmit the power generated by the GENCOs. The GENCOs are thus limited in output which limits the power allocated to the eleven DISCOs across the country. The market is thus limited in the product (electricity) and the DISCOs have insufficient power to sell to the final consumers. Independent Generating Plants have however been identified in this work, and recommendations based on incentives payments have been explored using the Electricity Market, to bring these Stranded Power Plants into play.","PeriodicalId":436026,"journal":{"name":"African Economic and Management Review","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131782679","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To achieve the objective, the study employed Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ADRL) model to estimate both the short-run and long-run response of demand to changes in crypto price, consumer income and exchange rate. The Study found among others that cryptocurrency is demanded as a financial asset (either as money for exchange purpose or asset for speculative purpose). It was discovered that cryptocurrency price changes have significant impact on cryptocurrency demand but price inelastic. Meaning that a percentage changes in crypto price leads to less than proportionate change in cryptocurrency demand. It was also discovered that Nigeria real exchange rate has negative relationship with cryptocurrency demand meaning that as Naira real exchange rate to dollar is falling, the demand for cryptocurrency is rising. Other factors that are influencing cryptocurrency demand in Nigeria include consumer income, cryptocurrency popularity, and inflation rate in the country. The study concludes that while price plays an important role in cryptocurrency demand, fluctuations in cryptocurrency demand is less than the fluctuation in its price. The implication is that there are several other factors (structural issues) including real exchange rate movement that influences demands for cryptocurrency other than its price that policy makers should explore.","PeriodicalId":436026,"journal":{"name":"African Economic and Management Review","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125443685","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Specifically, the study adopted a descriptive survey research method where questionnaire was used to collect data from 150 SMEs in 30 randomly selected enumeration areas in Lagos state Nigeria. The study specifically revealed that strategic management practices like scanning the environment from opportunities, strategy formulation, strategy implementation, and strategy evaluation have a significant impact on organization performance within the sampled period. The study further revealed that most of the SMEs in Nigeria have embraced strategic management practices but are wrongly implemented and evaluated explaining why strategic management practices have not reflected in improved competitive advantages of the SMEs in Nigeria in the global scene. As such, the study concludes that for the benefits of strategic management practices to be reflected in the SMEs performances in Nigeria, firms must be able to implement and evaluate strategy formulated.","PeriodicalId":436026,"journal":{"name":"African Economic and Management Review","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121456956","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Using Generalised Least Square Approach. it was discovered that gender inequality indices such as equality between males and females in getting jobs in the formal economy under the same or similar circumstances have a significant impact on the growth of the informal economy in the continent. The study concludes that if an adequate effort is not made to address the gender inequality in the continent, especially in formal employment that has forced many females to informal sector employment, the objective of achieving inclusive growth and development in the continent might not be realistic. The study, therefore, recommends that the United Nation and other international organizations should compensate the African women by giving the women at least 60 percent chance in all their employees as a way of increasing the economic and political power of the women in the continent.","PeriodicalId":436026,"journal":{"name":"African Economic and Management Review","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-02-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126092725","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
