Here, two evolutionary scenarios are considered. The first one concerns massive black holes in the local universe, which in a large majority have been formed by the growth of seeds as their host galaxies are assembled in accordance with the hierarchical picture. In the second scenario, seeds with masses around 100-150 M? grow by accretion of gas forming a non-steady massive disk, whose existence is supported by the detection of huge amounts of gas and dust in high-z quasars. These models of non-steady self-gravitating disks explain quite well the observed \"Luminosity-Mass\" relation of quasars at high-z, indicating also that these objects do not radiate at the so-called Eddington limit.","PeriodicalId":429400,"journal":{"name":"Topics on Strong Gravity","volume":"77 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134537095","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Stellar mass twin configurations are obtained if a strong first-order phase transition occurs in the interior of a compact star. In the mass-radius diagram of compact stars, this will lead to a third branch of gravitationally stable stars with features that are very distinctive from those of white dwarfs and neutron stars. We discuss rotating hybrid star sequences in the slow rotation approximation and in full general relativity and draw conclusions for an upper limit on the maximum mass of nonrotating compact stars that has recently be deduced from the observation of the merger event GW170817.","PeriodicalId":429400,"journal":{"name":"Topics on Strong Gravity","volume":"112 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128085378","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Recently, models have been developed to interpret the observed signals in terms of fundamental frequencies connected to General Relativity, which has opened a promising way to measure the prediction of GR in the strong-field regime. I review the current standpoint both from the observational and theoretical side and show that these systems are the most promising laboratories for testing GR and the observations available today suggest that the next observational facilities can lead to a breakthrough in the field.","PeriodicalId":429400,"journal":{"name":"Topics on Strong Gravity","volume":"8 11","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-02-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131726216","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
