Results show that the detection performance of a PAM OOK CEMC system significantly depends on the statistical parameters of diffusion noise and intersymbol \u0000 \u0000interference (ISI). Analytical performances of ISI-free and ISI-affected \u0000 \u0000scenarios have been explained and compared based on receiver operating characteristics (ROC) curves for impulse (i.e. spike)-modulated (IM) and PAM schemes. It is shown that the \u0000 \u0000effects of diffusion noise and ISI on ROC can be explained separately based on their communication range-dependent statistics.

However, how to efficiently and fairly share the spare channels is still a topic under intensive research. This paper investigates a spectrum trading problem under relatively realistic settings, where heterogeneous channels under buyers' budget constraints are specifically considered, while maintaining incentive compatibility and individual rationality. The proposed auction game consists of a price-setting primary owner (PO), targeting on maximizing its total revenue, and secondary users (SUs), bidding channels for reasonable values. To handle channel heterogeneity, SUs provide independent valuation according to observed quality on different channels. The PO adopts a sequential arbitrary-order mechanism for flexible deployment and achieving aforementioned economic properties in polynomial time. Finally, the numerical results show performance improvements in PO revenue and SU utility over reference approaches.

The coexistence of different data types arises the problem of assigning the network resources in a fair way by taking into account possible different priorities among the traffic streams. In this paper we propose an allocation control scheme which is easy to implement, meets the limited resources of sensor nodes, and does not require extra control traffic in the WSN. Our scheme is based on the idea that the motes maintain a window with the classes of the latest transmissions. We propose an analytical model and provide an algorithm to study the performance of this allocation scheme with respect to the throughput and the fairness achieved. The model is a continuous time Markov chain which is proved to be dynamically reversible (although not reversible) and admits a product-form equilibrium distribution.

The wireless channel conditions vary over time and the opportunistic scheduler in the access point can account for the channel conditions as well as for the number of backlogged packets for the different mobile nodes. The tool is designed to allow for fast and accurate calculations of the main performance measures of the system. The calculation method is based on a Maclaurin series expansion of the stationary solution of the Markov process that describes the channel conditions and the queue contents for the different mobile nodes. The Maclaurin series expansion only requires the inversion of sparse block triangular matrices, which is considerably faster than directly calculating the stationary solution. The tool provides a user interface for defining the network and channel parameters and can be easily used for assessing the efficiency of opportunistic schedulers, or for optimizing system parameters and scheduling policies of such schedulers.

The scheme uses constant stepsize stochastic approximation to adjust collision probabilities to set values, using an approximate analytic relationship between this probability and the back-off window. A further variation of this scheme also adapts the set points.
